Should I?

I was thinking of getting my kid this phone before school starts. She has the old optimus m and about beat the piss out of it. I know it's only a slight upgrade but it is in the price range. I don't think the Connect is for her (I have one) and Samsung sux. In other words LG Optimus M+ owners do you love your phone? Any pros or cons?

I really like it. I'm a bells and whistles kind of guy, but I'm also practical. This phone is faster than the original OM, operates flash beautifully, has a flash and takes nice pictures. Yes, it doesn't have 4G, or a dual core processor, or any number of other higher end things, but I do like it.

I'm also very happy with mine, had it for a few months now. As long as you don't care about 4G, and especially if you have wireless available regularly, you should like it.
Battery life isn't stellar but if you were satisfied with the battery on the OM this one is similar, maybe a bit worse because of the faster processor and slightly lower capacity battery. When connected to Wifi it uses much less battery than when on the data network. I don't find it to be a big issue because I'm rarely far from power to plug it in.
Although there don't seem to be any stock sized batteries available anywhere other than Metro yet (@$40 a pop!), the aftermarket does have extended double-sized batteries very cheap and they come with an extended rear cover.
I don't take a lot of pics but the camera is decent, and the flash makes an excellent flashlight with one of the flashlight apps.
Too bad they raised the price though, I got mine when it was still $129 and shortly after that it went up to $149.

I agree that the battery life is a tad shorter, but like was also said, if you are on wifi all day the battery life is decent. I love having a flashlight app. It comes in real handy when I'm in a data center trying to peer into the back of a server rack trying to read a serial number.

Do you have any negative things? I know my LG Connect as well as the Esteem had updates for over heating.

I like this phone a lot. It has a really nice build quality, especially with the Gorilla Glass. Despite its relative lower-end specs, it performs extremely well with little to no lag at all. The battery life is slightly lower than the original Optimus M, but I still can squeeze three to four days out of it on a single charge with data turned off when not in use.

The only thing I don't like about it is that it can't tether. I don't even mind that it isn't 4G since I'm around wi-fi almost all the time. But tethering is a big thing for me and it's too bad this phone can't do it. If it did, I probably wouldn't get another phone for a very long time.

We haven't had any updates yet. The only time mine overheats is if I try to charge it in the car in direct sunlight (Texas summers can be brutal). I have found that sometimes when I try to turn on wifi, the phone will lock up (or bog down so bad that it seems like it locks up). I usually end up taking out the battery and rebooting. It doesn't happen often though.

Yeah it's interesting that the old Optimus M had hotspot capability and the M+ doesn't, at least not out of the box. You can still do wired tethering with it but for wireless it will not generate a true access point, only an ad-hoc signal. Some devices can connect to an ad-hoc network but many do not and won't even recognize it as an available network.
It's possible there is a way to make it work but I don't think anyone has done it yet.

Don't understand why they would have lowered the battery capacity.

I am thinking of doing the exact same thing as OP...getting this for my daughter to replace an OM.

Any chance the original OM battery will work in the M+? 1500 vs 1300mAh

Just a thought I haven't handled or seen the inside/battery of the M+

No, the two batteries are definitely physically a different size. The original OM battery is physically bigger.

Yeah the lower battery capacity is due to the battery being smaller and slimmer (to fit in the slimmer phone).
