Orange UK 'Support' & Google Sign Up on Hero

Hi

First, thanks to all the other posters that have provided solutions to the google sign up problem with the HTC Hero. Reset to factory settings worked for me once the internet was setup with Orange (a whole other story!).

However, I have called Orange several times over the past three days to try and get onto the internet etc and, once the internet was finally working, was told that the google features of the phone were 'unsupported'. Apparently, Orange technical support staff are not trained in the fundamenatal aspects of their Android products beyond providing the actual data connection.

I know this is a bit of a moan and that it is a public holiday weekend here in England but I'm moved to post regardless. Orange, please give your staff the information they need to support your customers. I am farily well qualifiied to deal with problems like this and have the patience to do so. Not all consumers would be.

Apart from this - excellent phone.

Yours
Craig

BTW - if you are under 18 and an Orange customer, don't try and get onto these android forums from your Hero; Orange considers them to be unuitable for you!

Interesting Craig

I am new to Orange as of last friday. The hero they sent me does not "do" data, so they are sending me another SIM card to see if that's the cause. It's not an issue at their end apparently.

If they don't have this sorted VERY soon, the contract will need to be re-evaluated. I may move to t-mobile G2, or even vodafone with the magic.
At least T-Mobile have been working with the G1 for some time now.

How did they sort your data issues?

I have had my first G1 on TMobile since the day before Official Launch Oct 21, 2008 ... I have never had a data issue with it ... I live in Washington DC Metro area and have had great reception 5Bars at home and Work ... 3G has been solid.

Even in area where I might have 1 or 2 bars and have still had no dropped calls ... so I am quite happy ...

I dont know if the HERO has a radio or antenna as good as the G1 ... but it should ... ???
