Okay so I figured I would help get this All Things Root forum started by making a thread where you can download all the recoveries that are compatible with the Sprint Galaxy Nexus.

First off comes clockwork mod which is probably the most popular aftermarket Android recovery. It comes in two versions, a touch variant and the traditional volume and power button navigation.

Both versions can be downloaded here, make sure to select Galaxy Nexus (Sprint)

The next recovery is TWRP (Team Win Recovery Project) which is a great recovery with all the functionality of clockwork but with more eye candy and a few more features.

Download TWRP 2.1.2 (the newest version)

I plan on keeping this page updated as new/updated recoveries come out. If you have any questions about the recoveries, feel free to ask, I am sure either me or someone else will be able to answer them.

Just to be *that* guy, is there a huge difference between twrp 2.1.2 and the 2.2.0?

I noticed after extracting the zip for fastboot, that it awesomely includes all the recoveries. :D

I figured that, if the differences are negligible, I'd go with which ever version is included... :D (lazy and weak interwebz on my end)...

Also, to continue being *that* guy -- anyone have the md5 for the 2.1.2 twrp?

Doesn't look like the 2.1.2 version is available at the published download link given above.

The MD5 of the 2.2.0 version (openrecovery-twrp-2.2.0-toroplus.img) should be 3a3b9fd1479220312394966056fc760e.

I've updated my Android Root Toolkit app to now support the Sprint Galaxy Nexus (toroplus) for four different custom recoveries. If you do find a proper download link for the 2.1.2 version of TWRP that you'd like me to include in the app, please let me know.

Also, if you guys know where the stock/factory image(s) can be found for the Sprint versions, I'd love to know that, too, so I can support the stock recoveries.

Cheers and thanks!

There are notable differences between both versions, the biggest one is the keyboard being accessible while in recovery. You can name/rename backups during your recovery session and run some terminal commands if needs be as well. I've also noticed a decent speed increase.

I'm not at a PC atm so I can't provide you with the md5.

I've been looking at videos online, and QBKing77 uses the AndroidSDK. I assume the file that Urge has listed that needs to be unzipped (GalaxyNexusRootWindows) bascially has all the files I need that would otherwise have been in the SDK? So far I have the most recent TWRP Image, the file above, and the drivers. That's all I need right? Then unlock the bootloader, issue the fastboot command to install recovery and then I'm done? I don't care about running rooted stock, so I don't need to worry about flashing the su.zip file....I just want to flash to JB asap. Trying to get my ducks in a row prior to getting my hands on this thing.

I assume the zip has all the files. I had the SDK installed already, so I didn't use anything but the recovery.img. I simply pushed the recovery with the fastboot command, booted into recovery, and flashed JB.

May be of note, the stock OS is supposed to overwrite custom recoveries with the stock recovery on each boot. I say "supposed to" because mine doesn't do it. In either case, I would boot immediately from the Bootloader (after you've unlocked it and flashed the recovery) to the recovery and do your thing.

The zip has everything you need to root and you're gtg. As for the order of things, you're good there too.

How long till you're aboard?

I already used goo manager to install the updated twrp and I had an after thought. I have had a bad img installed recovery in the past and wondered if installing twrp thru goo manager is any more or less reliable than using the img file and fastboot? It's certainly easier thru goo manager but are there any more or less issues?

If it flashed successfully, you don't have anything to worry about. Ideally I would love to flash everything via fastboot lol, but this way is fairly reliable too, and if anything were to go wrong, it wouldn't have flashed.
