I've used a few when growing up and we would visit relatives down South! I'm sure glad those days are over...
i have relatives in PA (not amish) that had these till around late 1990'S, no running water or electricity. and used coal for heat and cooking, with a coal shute to the basement where they delivered it to.
Growing up we had one of those (and an outdoor shower made from wooden pallets and rubber mats from a printing press) until I was in middle school (late 80s).

i never had an outhouse but family in pa did. and never had cable till 2000's when i moved to fla. got my first cell in 2009 and was born in the 60's.Growing up we had one of those (and an outdoor shower made from wooden pallets and rubber mats from a printing press) until I was in middle school (late 80s).

We didn't have a phone until I was in 4th or 5th grade, before that we had an intercom between our house and my uncles (1/8th of a mile away) and used Morse code on it.
My parents still don't have cable, they just got dial up earlier this year.never had cable till 2000's when i moved to fla.
sometimes i wish i never had all this technology? but then on another note i like it.My parents still don't have cable, they just got dial up earlier this year.
I feel that way at times also. It seems like you end up leaving home with too much stuff to carry!sometimes i wish i never had all this technology? but then on another note i like it.
they are still everywhere, just not for the washing purpose anymore.I have a wool doublet (vest) that I wear a bit and I have been looking for a washboard so I can clean it by hand.
