Have you heard if the Galaxy W will get it? I've searched around for some minutes and I can't find any material at all.

fraid not........

Samsung says that HW restrictions will prevent ICS on this device......becoz TouchWiz takes up(wastes) sooooo much RAM with useless crap.

The phone is more than capable, and there will be Custom ROM's to achieve what Samsung will not provide.

Check out XDA, there is a Galaxy W forum there, with custom recovery, custom ROM's already, and more!!!!

I wonder why I bought this last November, so that Samsung could mess with it's customers.

First and last Samsung Phone!!!!!

If our Aldi 1GHz single core tablet can run ICS nicely, this phone should do it easily :p

Shame on Samsung trying to force customers to buy dearer phones just for the OS......

Personally, I don't want to carry a brick in my pocket. The W is the perfect size for my needs.

Robbo.....

I have given you a "thanks"....

and I admire your resilience in being here almost single-handed answering posts from Feb/March...etc ....

I don't come in here much any more, since I fell out with an over-zealous Mod who censured me for no reason and the owner here did nothing....

If I can advise you, there is a much more lively forum over on XDA....

but even there, this Samsung phone lacks a lot of support and devs....

although those still creating stuff are to be commended....

Anyway, fair play to you!!!

Hi, thanks Danny, I'm pretty new to the Android scene, only started using it for the last year and a half or less so I'm still excited by it. I wish I could afford more exotic hardware, although is there anything really good in a small and pocketable design? They all seem to be trying to become a tablet now
Pretty soon we'll probably have Android televisions you can make calls on :p
I've considered making an Android powered carputer :D

I decided to try and answer some posts based on my experiences so far, more so that there was a little info in reply to questions, and that may help people reading through the threads. I'm not a programmer or anything, just like to tinker so I can't really do much to help the scene in any other way. I'm also dabbling with ICS on a netbook with Android x86. Going to install the latest version soon.
The Galaxy W is a nice little handset considering the price of it. I'm enjoying mine so far, little quirks aside :p I did join up over at XDA too, so I'll pop in, but probably won't be able to help as much there. It will be a bit too in depth for me I think.
I've wondered if a custom ROM would still be able to use the free Navigon software included with the handset? I'd be keen to try a later OS on my phone when they're fully able to run all the hardware properly.
Thanks for dropping in and introducing yourself, cheers, Rob.

I just didn't wanna leave you here on your own...

those big bad Mods might getcha :D

My ID on XDA is Irishpancake, same on Modaco.....but on Slatedroid I'm dannymur again :p

I still have the GT i8150 but got a cheapo Chinese Tablet, now with CM9 on, and a Huawei Ascend G300, going for sale soon, as soon as I decide whether to put ICS on or not....not sure yet......

Was an avid SanFran/Blade owner initially, but donated that to my son, just so I can hold it bow and again....what a device!!!!

got a T-Mob Vivacity for Mrs P.....like the Blade, but not as luvable!!!

So you see, my Wonder is a high spec machine by comparison heh heh
