Wanted to try the FM radio capability and found out the Evo V lacks "app for that", so I searched around and came up with a HtcFMradio.apk to try.

Well, it works for me. Just need to have a stereo headphone plugged in acting as wire for the antenna, can use the speaker or headphones. Volume might be on the low side but at least I can use FM radio now.

Hadn't seen anything about this mentioned here. I was going to try and find an official HTC FM radio app source but only came up with some others. The apk file I got is from

https://hotfile.com/dl/159572636/5030cef/HtcFMRadio.apk.html

Anyone know if this one is OK/good, or if there's a better one to use?

I ask because, first, I don't know much of anything yet about "apps" and secondly because I also found people were having trouble with similar FM radio apk files.

Thanks for any responses regarding this.

Yes it works, but theres an odd bug in it. Every time you tap something, it cuts the music out to play the tapping click. I don't know why, perhaps this is the reason its not included, rather than fix the bug, VM probably found it cheaper just to remove the app. But it works great as long as you're not multitasking. It's a nice FM app, has the ability to store presents and even rename them. Shame it needs a stupid headset as an antenna, though on the bright side, it lets you use phone's speaker even with headphones connected.

I had it for a couple hours a month or so back, but uninstalled it. It didn't work that great because of the headphone wire acting as an antenna, and the app itself was just buggy.

Hmm, not encouraging, but these are things I wanted to hear. :p

I hadn't used it enough to notice anything wrong, just set it playing a favorite nearby station.

I want to be able to use it in remote locations where I don't get a connection and figured that could be trouble for FM radio too, especially since I was thinking of trying a homemade short wire antenna using an old 3.5mm plug to test this out. Having now seen a telescoping antenna being sold for this purpose I'm definitely not wanting to stick one of those on.

Maybe if I don't multi-task it could be okay enough. :)

That's the standard FM radio app that comes with the Evo 3D. It works perfectly fine for me. I listen to the radio nearly every day while at work. The streaming apps for the local stations here are complete garbage so this app is awesome for me. I haven't noticed any of the bugs that others have mentioned, but I tend to not be doing anything else while listening. And btw, you need the headphones plugged in because there would be no antenna otherwise. Hardly a deal breaker.
