This is also built into ICS leaks for Bionic. If your on ICS and boot into recovery it will show if you ever have been or currently are Rooted.

What I do know is that even FXZing to .905 and back to a ICS build won't reset it. Again, just provided for everyone's information.

"qe 0/0″ means your device has never been rooted
“qe 1/1″ means your device is currently rooted
“qe 0/1″ means it was rooted before, but currently isn’t

*shrug* Kinda sucks but I can understand why they do it. Doesn't bother me too much, I don't plan on sending my Bionic in even if something goes wrong. As a matter of fact I don't think I've ever sent any of my phones in for repairs, warranty issues, etc. Knock on would, I've never needed to.

It's only BS if they start refusing repairs that are clearly unrelated to you rooting or rom'ing your phone. If you send in a phone with a headphone jack that won't output any audio or a screen that it starting to warp, if they refuse to do anything just because you've triggered the root counter in recovery, that would be really lame. They're smart enough to know what rooting and rom'ing your phone can or cannot break.

The big "got ya" is if it's anything that could be software related. Reception for example, they could say it's because it is or has been rooted. Then it would be up to you to prove the same condition would still exist had it not ever been rooted.
They could say because you were rooted malware (or whatever they wanted to say it was) caused your radio to not work correctly and it would cost X amount of dollars to replace your phone of have Motorola do a complete wipe to repair the effected software.
If it's a hardware failure they could say something caused your phone to overclock while it was rooted thereby voiding the warranty.

I'm not saying they are going to do this for now but you know it's coming down the road. They may say they included the ability to check it to help the consumer but you know at some point it will be used against us, this kind of stuff always is.

If you are rooted on GB and use some sort of OTA survival technique whereby root is protected then it might show on the upgrade to ICS, but other wise, it will start out as 0/0 when you first upgrade to ICS.

That's good to know, It had been reported earlier it would still show after FXZing from .232 back to 904 0r 905 then going back to ICS, glad to know that's not the case.
I'll still probably root .242 when I decide to take the jump though.

The information is stored in an area that is currently inaccessible. If you go to an ICS leak that info is there and never leaves, even if you FXZ (back to GB). Once you go to ICS, the info is created and never removed.

So, that report of going to ICS, then FXZ back to GB and going to ICS again is correct - it will show at the very least 0/1 until it is rooted again (if the phone was ever rooted when on ICS) and 0/0 if the phone was never rooted while it was on ICS.

I meant for a phone that had never had ICS installed on it before - if you unroot / FXZ /never root prior to the first ICS install, it will be 0/0.
