Just Pulled the Trigger

Just pulled the Trigger and ordered one of these online from VM. It's to new for B&M Stores to have in stock. No Luck at RatShack, Walmart, or BestBuy in my city. Hope to have it in a few days. I miss having a physical qwerty keyboard, so the slider and ICS persuaded me to purchase one. I have an VM LG Optimus Elite so I'm curious to see how it compares.

Anyone else out there picking one of these up?

I'm going to get one of these and I also have the elite which is giving me nothing but problems. It has everything the elite offers except the NFC and 5MP camera.

I haven't had any major problems with my Elite, except I bricked it installing a Beats Audio APK and had to reflash the original image. Overall, though mine has been very good for a $99 phone. However, my Mom's was a Lemon. Constant reboots, shutoffs, and dropped calls. We exchanged it for another one and now its fine.

I'm not a big picture person, but the lack of a camera button on the Elite sucks. I just got back from Vacation and took pictures with it, but found pressing the button on the screen to snap a picture very cumbersome. The Rise has a dedicated camera button and I can handle the 3.2MP camera.

The NFC is a cool concept, but I can live without it to move to a stock ICS. Hopefully we'll see some support for Rooting when more people pick one up. I contributed to the Development of a Clockwork Mod for the Elite, but when I saw the Kyocera up on the VM page for $99 I decided to check it out.

Is it possible to exchange my elite for this phone?

Depends on when you bought it. I picked up our Elite's at Best Buy and the one I picked up for my Mom that had problems they exchanged without a problem but we are under our 30 days. I plan on taking my Elite back to BestBuy and getting my money back. I would have done an exchange for the Rise, but none of the Best Buys have any of the Virgin models in Stock in my area. I called numerous and none of them had a clue what I was talking about. They only have the Sprint Models in Stock.

The elite is just about two weeks old and was from Virgin Mobile directly. Do you think they will let me exchange it for a Rise?

When you get the phone can you take sample pictures and a sample video using WVGA resolution and post it here?

I just bought this phone yesterday at Sprint and absolutely love it. I haven't had a smart phone in 2+ years (since I bought an LG Ally) but I do know that this phone is pretty amazing.

There is one issue I've had with it and that's the screen will go black, you can still use the phone just no display, and you have to shut it down (just hold down the power button until it shuts off), then turn it back on. Though I popped the battery out for a couple of hours and put it back in, haven't had it happen to me again since.

Since it's my first post here I can't provide links to images but if you're interested I can PM someone here them and you can post them for me?

How does the OS run? Is it smooth?

I've had no slowdowns. The only issue (if you want to call it that) is that I have to hold in the camera button for a couple of seconds before the camera app loads (not sure if intentional or not, doesn't seem like it's a slowness).

I'm also able to run Chrome just fine on it (which is very nice). The website quality isn't bad at either as I've seen in some video reviews.

Overall I feel it's a pretty flawless phone, especially for the $20 I paid for it (gotta love Sprint deals). As long as you're not expecting some high class phone that has a 8MP camera and can play stuff in stunning 3D it should be smooth.

Thanks for posting those. My phone won't be here until Friday. Hopefully we'll see at least a root hack in the near future.

No problem. I'll post up a video soon and put the link here as well.
