Verizon's Nexus One could be arriving 'by the end of next week' (updated) -- Engadget

Let's start with the obvious proviso here, the above image is so painfully easy to fake that even our computer illiterate grandparents could mock one up within a few minutes. That said, it's purportedly a screenshot of a little oopsie by Google's online store, which is said to have briefly displayed the Verizon option for Nexus One handsets as available to buy for $199 plus the relevant contractual shackles. We wouldn't normally credit such unverifiable information, but then we're also hearing from Soft Sailor that a highly trusted "inside" source of theirs is reporting that Verizon-carried, Sense-less Nexus Ones will be out and about "by the end of next week." Given that the earlier mooted date of March 23 has now come and gone, we're apprehensive about investing too much of ourselves in these rumors, but those supposed CDMA Nexus One shipments from HTC have to come out and play at some point, right?

Update: jkOnTheRun has more insider info to share with us on this topic. James Kendrick's people "in positions to know" tell him that the Verizon Nexus One will definitely show up in April, which meshes with the Spring timeframe we've already been given, but there's also word about a "surprise" that other US carriers lack. Whether that refers to Sense-related enhancements or some other software optimizations, we'll have to wait and see.

Wooo!! Definitely excited!! I wonder what will be the surprise?! Froyo?! Maybe even sense as an option which would be sweet even though I don't personally like it! I'm pumped now!! :D

Another update saying the reason for delay...

Update: We've now had a couple people tell us the hold-up for the Verizon Nexus One has been because Skype wasn't playing nicely with Android 2.1. Plausible?

Verizon Nexus One sales page caught on video for your disbelieving eyes | Android Central

EDIT: Read the comments too. They are saying this is the reason because of the Droid 2.1 update too. Skype compatibility for both of the softwares on the phones. It honestly makes sense... Hopefully we still get a "surprise" though! lol.

i'm thinking the "surprise" will be a downgrade to a TFT screen for the vzw Nexus... :p

they figure too many people will complain about the poor readability of amoled in sunlight, so giving it TFT instead... :D

no AMOLED for you! lol

not to mention, vzw customers won't want to spend the extra $ for amoled, due to their plans costing so much :D

Anyone has info as to how much this phone will cost to current Verizon customers?

My girlfriend has Verizon, and we're just waiting for this phone. Her contract actually expires on July 2010, but she can upgrade to a new phone since Feb 7th, 2010. We've been waiting for Nexus One because I told her this is the phone she needs to upgrade.

Anyone has an idea if she will pay $179? $199? or more for two-year contract?

Maybe the Nexus One is getting a redesign other than the internal CDMA. I've been hoping that by the time it comes to Verizon that the trackball will be changed over to a trackpad. Now that would be a welcomed improvement. Time will tell.

The only way I'd like this is if they managed to maintain the tri-color notifications within the track pad. If not, they should keep the ball.

I was just reading the Gizmodo review of the Desire and thought the same thing. I think it's wishful thinking as it wouldn't bode well for synergy in the N1 brand but would be awesome nonetheless. They're already producing the phone with a trackpad, why not upgrade the Nexus One with it?

Skype works fine on 2.1 (ESE53).

Hopefully the surprise is that they'll have units in store, so people can actually use the phone before buying it.

Talked to a rep in the store the other day, and he seemed to think that would be the case. He also seemed to think that the Incredible and the N1 were the same thing, so he might be confused.

I asked if when they start selling the N1, it'll be sold online like T-Mobile and whether or not they'll provide service for it. He said they would never have a phone like that not in the store.

Sorry bud.. Current customers gotta pay the $525 price  the $199 or lower is only for NEW customers coming to verizon. Example, from Tmobile to Verizon. If currently on Verizon with a Family plan, individual plan, or whatever you have, you have to pay the $525 price. Sucks but it'll be worth it!

OUCH! It should be new customers or with a 2 year renewal. That just decided it for me, Incredible it is!

Yes, you are correct. I don't know why the other guy thought that if you were eligible for an upgrade you had to pay full price. It's just $100 more.

Ya i am anxiously awaiting the VZW version of the N1. Tired of dealing with my BB storm. Although I wont have the ability to upgrade until September I am willing to drop the $529 for the phone it just seems worth it. Plus I been having fun messing with my brother-in-laws Droid which i rooted for him :) and now he loves it lol he actually handed my sister (his wife) his iPhone cause well it sucks haha.

but hopefully when September roles around I can upgrade to something better like the incredible that way I can have a rooted phone and an unrooted phone for warranty sakes lol :)

That can't be correct. I am not yet eligible for the Nexus one, I am in my 18th month of my 24 month contract with T-Mobile, and I know if you are in the 23rd month, you can get a partial discount, like $299 or something.

Exactly!. I didn't read this reply.

Hey, relax everyone lol. Geez haha. I made a mistake sorry. I thought it was those only two options either buy it unlocked or new contract coming from another company. I've never seen that price with the link before. Thanks for posting that.

Sorry again for the misunderstanding. I again have never seen that. So it will be around that price then. Which isn't bad at all.

Hey no worries glad i was able to help anyway. At least now you know and hopefully with this "Rumored" surprise will be something we can all enjoy.

Also in reply to the video I could make a easy webpage duplicate of that site and make it look like that. so I doubt it authenticity as no one else has even claimed to witness it.
