What would it take to get you to upgrade to the new Nexus?

I was just speculating on the new Nexus and thinking that I was still very happy with my Galaxy Nexus. In the past, after a year I'm usually itching for an upgrade because the latest-and-greatest devices are substantially better than what I have.

I tried a Galaxy S III and wasn't that impressed. Ended up selling it. Jelly Bean on my GNex made it feel like a new phone.

For me, a substantially better battery life in the same profile might do it. This phone lasts a "normal" amount of time for me - have to charge it every night. That's been the same as every other smartphone I've owned. If they could pack a 3300 or 3500 mAh battery in there like the Razr Maxx, though, without changing the size of the phone much, I'd be very tempted.

Reception isn't tremendous, but it's very decent everywhere I've visited, so I don't think an improvement in that alone would get me to upgrade.

So: what would it take on the new Nexus to get you to upgrade? Will you even consider it?

Jelly Bean on my GNex made it feel like a new phone.

Very true words. Kinda fell in love with my phone all over again as soon as I ROM'd it.

For me...I don't know. There's not really much else I could really need for at this point. I get average battery life already anyway, even without toying with the kernels, though I'm not in a 4G area anyway. But I was in 4G all day Saturday, and still made it through from 10 AM to probably 7 without even hitting 50% down.

I don't mind the screen size, since other devices with 4.3' screens have been about the same overall size anyway.

Really, I can't complain at all. Guess it just gives me time to save aside for the outright of whatever my next will be, which I'm sure will be at least a year from now lol.

Well the GS3 has substantially better LTE battery life than the GN already due to next generation LTE radios AnandTech - Bench - Smartphone11

Yep, I like the increased battery life from the new radios (I believe they are doing LTE on-chip vs. the GNex doing it in software, no?) but I still want a beefier battery.

The race for thinness is getting ridiculous. The GS3, in fact, feels slightly awkward because it's very thin, but with so much surface area - poor ergonomics. Until I start wearing skinny jeans (on which day I will commute to work on a winged pig), shaving another 2mm off my phone at the expense of 1000 mAh of battery is not someone I'm interested in.

I guess the other thing that could tip me is a really stellar camera. It'd have to be stellar, though. Maybe with a real xenon flash or something.

I have to say, I'm intrigued by the notion of an Xperia Nexus. I don't know if it would get me to buy one, as I've had my GNex only a few months. But a better camera and improved battery life (via bigger battery or less thirsty CPU, whatever) would tempt. I also like the form-factor of the Xperia phones. I never really liked Samsung's roundy styling.

The only thing I wish was better on the Gnex is battery life. It's manageable, but barely. Fortunately I keep a charger everywhere I go and am able to keep it charged at work all day. But for the times when I'm out for a while.. it goes quick, esp. on 4G. I basically have to disable mobile data if I want to make it last for the majority of the day and still have juice left over in the evening. This is even with custom LV kernels and keeping my sync intervals few and far between. There's not much you can do about that power sucking display and cell radios though, that's the majority of it. It's nice to have a spare battery and the option of switching it out though. I'm really hating these phones going to their unibody/enclosed design. Function > form.

Battery life, the newer 4G radio hardware, quad core, better camera, gorilla glass, and..... that's the only things I can think of to make this thing better.
I don't know who they polled that would say, "my smart phone is too heavy and thick. I need it slimmer so it can fit into my skinny jeans better. And make it weigh less because when I'm sagging my girlfriend's skinny jeans, it starts to pull down on them." When will they figure out that people want a phone that will last 24 hours on battery. And hush you people who post screen shots of 48 hours battery with 20 seconds screen on time.

I actually knocked up a render of a Sony Nexus. You tell me that this design isn't slick.

I have no idea how Sony feel about aluminium though.

its nice, im not a fan of the shape... (would apple try to sue them for something involving the shape? :p) i am also not a fan of the metallic silver on the back.

moto nexus would be the king of nexus devices IMHO just so much better hardware, i would sacrifice the look of a beautiful screen for a phone that will get amazing signal and substantially less bugs than the nexus

Gnex battery life on 4G is not so great. I can barely get 10~11 hours if used minimally. And it takes rapid dive if I really use 4G data with video, big downloading. But if I turn off LTE, it easily lasts 2.5~3X longer. So no need to disable mobile data to keep it going. 3G is enough for emails, SNS, etc. And using WiFi will help a lot too.
