Help Infinity Jellybean update?

Someone claims to have gotten it on xda developers forum yesterday. No one else has said anything about receiving it though.

Take these stories with a grain of salt. While it's possible that this one user got randomly selected to do a soak test, it's generally someone just trying to get the forums spun up.

Unless, of course, they managed to extract the OTA and upload it. Which is pretty easy if you're rooted and you don't accept the update until after you copy the files. I'd bet that most people on XDA are both rooted and know how to do this (or know to not take the update until after the OTA is copied and will ask how to extract it).

Asus also makes their OTAs available to download via PC on their support site. I just checked it yesterday and they still only have the .26 OTA available, no Jelly Bean.

The guy who claimed to have received it posted lots of proof that he has it including a video of the actual tablet frame to show it is a 700, boot up sequence to show he wasn't unlocked and what not. The issue most are finding is that the build number and kernel seem to match the jb update for the 300. Weird.

That's interesting. Perhaps he is a part of the soak test. The odds are just astronomical that a member of an online community would get selected for it and then post about it. It's a shame he wasn't able to upload the update.

If he did get lucky to be a part of the soak test, then it means we'll probably see Jelly Bean on the TF700 in the near future. Hopefully before October.

As for the build and kernel versions matching the JB update for the TF300, the fact that he showed that his device is a TF700 and that it's still locked makes me think that Asus just got lazy/forgetful and didn't change the build/kernel numbers. Even if you root it and tried to manually copy/paste/overwrite all the files of the TF300 JB update to a TF700, it would likely brick your device.

I'm going to have to look through that thread and find the video myself. I'm intrigued.

It's post 136 if you want to jump to it.

People are beginning to further question the person's legitimacy because apparently it is possible to install the tf300 jb file and install it without a brick. Users are commenting that it is sluggish and icons become huge because of the resolution problems. The person making the claim has since been very quiet to say the least.

That's disappointing. It would explain the build/kernel being the same. I don't see how it would work. But I'm not ROM dev, so I think I'm done speculating. I will just sit patiently and await my update like everyone else.

I should have stuck with my initial gut feeling.

Yeah, I thought for sure it would result in a brick because of so many differences between them, but it might be an interesting find for owners of the 201 since they're so much alike.

I think I read somewhere that Asus is aiming to get it out by the end of October, but there also the tf prime 201 that also is schedule to get jb and who knows who will get it first between us and them.

There are some instructions on xda that can walk you through installing the tf300 jb release on the infinity with only 2 known bugs(screen brightness cannot be adjusted and dpi cannot be changed and is defaulted at the 720p resolution that the tf300 is making everything quite large), but the true danger in this is that it updates the bootloader and makes it IMPOSSIBLE to return to ics due to version checks. The could cause problems for when the infinity get jellybean if the bootloader won't pass the version check, but no way to know for sure until it comes out.

What's kind of disturbing is that you don't need to be unlocked to use this method and might leave you open to use your warranty if something breaks. Very dishonest, but a loophole none the less. None the less, I'm waiting for the official update.
