Any new phone rumors for Sprint?

Maybe that's it...Google aligning itself with Verizon exclusivity, like Apple did with the iPhone before?...LOL...Hopefully, they're not that dumb. I don't think the Google/Motorola guys should've made any comments about Verizon, even though it was a co-hosted event with Verizon.
Well, here's what they've accomplished wrt me: Between no Android world phone on Sprint any more, Googorola apparently having some kind of exclusivity deal with VZ, and VZ costing $20/mo. more--for less (2GB data cap): I certainly won't be buying anything Motorola. In fact: If I do anything in the near term, it'll probably be a GSM phone on T-Mobile or an iPhone 4s on Sprint. Since I want to stay with Sprint: The latter option is looking most likely.

Since, coincidentally, my one-year-old Android tablet is apparently already dying: If I go that latter route I'll certainly replace the tablet with an iPad. If those things happen: My wife will almost certainly follow when her 'droid tablet dies and it's time for her phone upgrade.

It's a funny old world. A week ago I would've never given the iStuff a 2nd look.

If you're interested in buying an iPhone 4S off contract, I'm in the process of getting the one I sold back because the buyer "claimed" that it didn't power up, when I triple checked the phone prior to sending it. Nontheless, when I receive it back and I confirm that the buyer sent me back the exact phone I sent to him, I'll be having Apple repair it since it's still under the 1 year product warranty.

I personally would never buy Apple products for myself, but this was for a family member that insisted they wanted an iPhone only to end up hating it after 1 month of use and wanting to go back to Android (and this is a family member that isn't necessarily tech savvy at all).

Thanks, drexappeal, but I'll pass. I don't know how I'd like the iPhone, so outright buying one would be a risky move.

No worries. Assuming I don't get scammed (and eventually have to appeal the case), I just figured I'd offer to someone on the boards that I can trust, rather than selling to anybody on ebay.

I may end up just going through Amazon, since they seem to offer the most money back for "buy back" pricing.

LOL...First was the screen...too small (and that was coming from an Epic). Then, after 1 month, no physical keyboard (it's actually a female that always has long/painted nails, so full touch for typing was a nightmare), and lastly layout/navigation. The 1 button Apple function did not make sense to the person at all. Considering that family member didn't use that many apps, it was troublesome to her to have so many icons that meant absolutely nothing to her and that she wouldn't use. Even putting them into folders didn't make sense. She preferred one touch widgets on different homescreens, in order to gain access to the most important apps that she used. I knew she wouldn't like it, but oh well...iPhone re-sell value is really high, which is the one thing I like!...hahaha

This is still what I am looking forward to. Hopefully the dimensions of the phone aren't too bad and it gets a good AOSP development community

I'm keeping an eye out for both the eclipse and the note 2. All indications are pointing to the eclipse being the US offering of the Optimus G. Dimensions from the fcc filing of the eclipse are extremely close to the optimus g. For whatever reason, the blogs talk more about the att fcc filing of the eclipse as the optimus g and i've only seen a handful of blogs talk about the sprint eclipse as the optimus g, even though the sprint version filed first and all the early leaked pics were the sprint version. Nontheless, I can't wait until the official announcement for both the eclipse and the note 2.

You would think I would have remembered that

Sorry its been a long week

Lol...no worries. I'm just trying to get a grip on what my last upgrade will be used on. Just hope eclipse truly is optimus g, in sprint us flavor

-EDIT- Okay, so it looks like I was worried for nothing. Based on the model number, the Escape is ATT's answer to the Viper. Still waiting on an official release statement for the Eclipse! I'm really curious to see if the US version of the Optimus G ends up being spec'd equal to the overseas version.

For those waiting to see if the Optimus G is also the same as the Eclipse, that passed through the FCC last month, looks like 9/18 is being rumored as a speculated "announcement" date:

LG may announce U.S. release of Optimus G next week | Android Atlas - CNET Reviews

To give a little more perspective on how great the form factor could be on this phone, the Eclipse dimensions from the FCC measured shorter than the Razr Maxx HD and the specs on the Optimus G, while being a little wider. The thickness is still TBD on the Eclipse...And the screen for the Eclipse was rumored to be .03 smaller than the Optimus G, at 4.67...but still pretty good considering the overall dimensions are close to the Razr Maxx HD.

For me, it seems like the determining factors will be...Smaller overall form factor (Eclipse) vs. Bigger overall form factor (Note 2). Also, the tie-breaker would be if the Note 2 is offered in 64gb flavor on Sprint! No question, that's always been a big part of my personal needs, both work and personal.

Hmmm...It is hinting at ATT radios, but I wonder if Sprint is considering having a "true" successor to the Photon, but instead using the Intel processor, which is why the Photon Q was released first?

Possible Intel-Powered RAZR M Hits The FCC As The Motorola XT890

I've already set up my different tiers for phone choices within the next couple months (barring any extra surprises), but I'm still holding out hope that Sprint eventually offers top end Moto devices in the future, not just variants that don't quite live up to par.

I hope so. Sprint currently has no device acceptable to me, VZW's plans are too expensive, I wouldn't have "AT&T" on a bet, and T-Mobile's coverage is unsuitable. So, even if I was ready to pull the trigger on a smart phone and data plan, I've nowhere to turn at this time.

Coincidentally, ran across this last night: Smartphone sales to new users 'have peaked'

Looks like maybe the market for expensive, fragile, glitchy phones on expensive data plans with undependable coverage and often sub-standard performance is saturated :p

The Optimus G looks great

We'll see how different the US variant is.

If we were to go on the FCC leaks alone, assuming the Eclipse is the US variant, seems like it's slightly less tall and slightly wider than the Korean/International version of the Optimus G. Also, the rumors about the Eclipse had a slightly smaller screen at 4.67, rather than 4.7. I'm really curious to see how it looks at the event. I'm also curious to see if they'll show accessories they'll have for it, just like the Note 2 had on display.
