Considering X10 and HTC Desire

I'm in the marked for an android phone. Main use will be the obvious telephone and sms-use, and development of web-based applications towards smartphones. (maybe also native apps, as a java dev it sounds more tempting than developing for iPhone despite its wider use.)

But between the htc and x10,

I got an ipod, both a dslr and a p&s so neither the sound quality nor the photo quality matters that much.

I saw a review of the amoled used in the n1 and the desire. That frankly put me a bit off amoled all in all. Not that I know if the x10 has a better color fidely. Then its a matter of memory, the earliest android phones were left in the dark due to low memory, what about x10 and its 256mb of ram? compared to the double in the desire.

Just trying to find the tool that can last a while.

I wonder how many sales Sony looses with not having dual/multitouch. The X10 went from being the most promising current phone to a second choice in one confirmation. But that's probably better to get out in the open now.

Even how much I wanted it, I just can't get myself to choose it.

And Moijk, the X10 didn't go from bing first choice to second. It went from being first choice to last in many people's books (at least in the flagship tier of Android handsets). I'd take the HTC Desire, Nexus One, or HTC Legend over the X10. And I'd seriously consider the Motorola Droid/Milestone as well. Once the Samsung Galaxy S is out, even that is more appealing to me.

I couldn't wait for the Galaxy S, so I ordered the Desire. Pity SE, as much as I would have wanted the x10, they screwed it up with this.

Very tempted by the Desire, not sure if i should hang on for the Galaxy S though. The Desire has been delayed another week in the UK so it gives me a bit more time to decide.

Same situation here. This phone lost all the impression it created. I would prioritize Desire, Nexus, Legend and on QWERT Keyboard side, it would be backflip, devour etc. X10.....no way.

Seriously: who cares...? I only see the same 2-3 people complaining here and when I asked around in my circles most people didn't seem to care too much about it.

Stick with the Desire.

And deal with 3G data bugs, smaller screen w/ more glare, lose Mediascape etc.

You guys are so funny with this hysteria about multitouch.
It's a typical gimmick, there's no added functionality and strictly speaking it actually reduces usability because you cannot perform multitouch safely when you drive using one hand...

I can use multi touch with one hand on my Hero; must have unfeasibly long fingers! lol

Seriously though; it's not a gimmick. As a convenient and easy way to zoom in and out, I think it's excellent.

One lost here as well I opted for the Desire and haven't regretted it so far.
Had a look at the X10 and the build looks and feels very cheap and nasty plus only running 1.6 is a let down with no multi touch and no pinch to zoom. And reading all the compaints on here pleased I went for the Desire

I have an X10 and I think it's the best looking phone on the market right now (I have the white one), it feels great in my hand. Android 2.X is on its way, although there still wont be any multi touch. I still won't switch to the desire because I like the look and feel of the X10, and that alone is enough for me to give up the multitouch. If the desire was shaped more like the X10, I would go for it.

Also the X10 has 1GB memory while desire has 512mb, and the X10 has a slightly higher resolution display.

I would also prefer TFT over AMOLED, being able to see my screen outside is far more important than having a better display inside. TFT is also much crisper.

I know you aren't able to compare the two phones side by side, but how's the volume / speaker output on the Desire? Good enough?

Hi All,

I had the Milestone, Desire and x10 for couple of days to choose one, decided to go for the X10, purely for the better camera, outdoor screen legibility and screen size.

From the early reviews I read, I was expecting to dump the X10, but was pleasantly surprised, and the lag in the UI are nowhere as bad as some reviewers suggest.

The only gripe I have at present is as some have mentioned, some letters seem to be difficult to press. The actual screen responsiveness IS great, just seems to be a problem with your presses being registered, this is evident for me on unlocking the phone with a swipe, sometimes I need to swipe too many times for the phone to unlock.

All the same, G1, Desire, Droid, X10 or what ever, I am so happy moving away from Windows mobile.

Yep, fair point mate. I'm gonna try a few different phones in store soon and check if mine is really as bad as I believe it is. For sure, I tried my Hero again today. And that is noticeably louder than my X10.

You are picky. In all the reviews by all the tech wizards everybody said how the screen looks amazing, and nobody noticed anything wrong. So i guess in real life, that problem is minimal. You should probably take it for a spin in some shop to see for yourself.

already have seen an N1. At first i thought the blurryness was due to some kind of antialiasing processing similar to microsoft cleartype, but then i found out it wasnt after readin that article

and the screen is barely visible outdoors. i use my phone for navigation when i'm walking around to find a restaurant etc, and this is another issue for me.

i am really picky about my screens. even on my laptop. I've been using UXGA and WUXGA screens on my 15" laptops since 2002, before they became mainstream

when i go away for a few days or a week i sometimes dont want to bring my laptop, so my phone becomes my "computer". So i'm really picky about the screen, as i sometimes have to view documents etc on it, essentially it becomes an ultraportable for me

It's important to remember that people are dissing and complaining about the X10 usually do not have one.
