Help Google Cloud Printing?

Need some assistance on GCP? I installed chrome on a home pc last night and configured GCP as per the instructions...but when I use the app on my GT (Cloud Print) it does not find my printer on the network? What am I doing wrong?

My printer is an older HP LaserJet (4200 I believe) that has a network card in it and shared across my LAN...it is not wireless but I can print to it wireless using a laptop because of the network card in the printer itself and its hooked up to a switch within my local setup...

Any assistance would be appreciated...thanks!

Well, I can't say what you might be doing wrong.
I use it here with an older HP printer that's connected to my PC via USB.
Works like a charm. In fact, the instructions say you need to have Chrome up and running,
and the printer turned on. Not here. If I send something to print, it works even when I don't
have Chrome up, and my printer is off. The printer turns on when it receives the command.
Very cool.
But, when I tried to set up my wife's printer, it was a no-go. Her printer wouldn't register
in the Google printer page. Never could figure out why.
Does your printer show as registered on the Google page?

Yeah, your post has had me thinking since I first read it.
It could be because of how you have the printer connected.
When you set it up on the Google site, there's an entry about registering your printers.
They should show up on that page (going by memory here, it was months ago I did it).
If your printer is on the list (there are other things on the computer that will show up as printers), you should be good to go.
In the Cloud Print app, when you set that up, there's a page where you select which printer
you want to use as the default. If it's not showing up in the app, that could be your problem. If it is there, again, you should be ok.
As I mentioned in my previous post, I couldn't get my wife's printer to work. Couldn't get it to "register" on the Google set up. Same setup as mine (just a different model HP), connected via USB to her computer, but just wouldn't register. Have no idea why.
Only other thing I can think of for you to try, if you haven't already, is to make sure your printer is set for sharing. Right click on it's icon, and you'll get a dialog box with a tab labeled sharing. Check the entry "share this printer on the network" or something like that.
Click apply or ok, whatever it says.

I tried again last night and its a no go. My printer is already shared out to the rest of the network. I went to settings on chrome enabled cloud printing and it says printer added but when the box pops up the only options are for uploading to google drive and something else I forget...my printer never shows up....I tried to enter my printer's shared name / ip address / etc but nothing happens.

So it looks like I can forget about it at this point. Guess I will wait until the app printershare or whatever goes on special again (not going to pay 12.99 for it). It went on special around this time last year or was free on amazon if I remember correctly.

Anyway, thanks for your help....I may try to tinker around with it again tonight. Not sure if I have my printer added as a shared printer through network settings or if I set it up tcp/ip....that may be an issue as well. But really it shouldn't because all printers can connect to it and print...dunno!
