Help Samsung Transform Ultra - Android System uses 80+% of Battery Life???

Hey, i purchased the Samsung Transform Ultra from Boost mobile a few months ago. I really like the device, minus the excessive battery drain. The phone is usually dead by noon (work starts at 6:30am) with light-medium use. My previous phone the Incredible 1 would at least last 12 hours with light-medium use. I get roughly 2-4 bars of signal inside at work... Anyways, I looked at the battery usage and it shows that 82% of the battery is used by the Android System. Other phones I've used show this at below 10%. Anyone have any insight as to why this is showing this.

FYI, I recently factory reset my phone and I was only using it today to run the initial setup and send a few text messages, so I don't think its caused by a process hog app. Anyone have an insight as to why the Android system is using so much of the battery? Also it seems to take longer than other Android devices to charge (compared to other devices with same battery capacities).

To be honest idk but you could try turning off data. Or you could also install juice defender to conserve energy.

Unless your rooted not much can be done except turning off data or installing juice defender like DMajor239 stated. If you are rooted then much can be done.

For the moment, what android version are you on 2.3.4, 2.3.6 with fd11 baseband or 2.3.6 with fg11 baseband?

What the unit is trying to do is continually sync your accounts, email, Facebook (if you have one), things like that plus any apps you may have are also continually trying to update.

I just performed the OTA update a few days ago. Little did I know that 2.3.6 fixes all the known hacks to root this phone. Everything that Google could bring up for methods to root this phone have failed. I would love to root it, but at this moment, i do cannot find a way to.

Edit: CWM won't even install. Zerg method fails to access root. I've even tried running the batch file in Windows and the .sh file in Linux *shrug* I don't know what else to do.

Baseband: x.FF27

Edit: I have account sync turned off, and I just installed Facebook app after the second charge (at noon). If you come across a post about getting 2.3.6 root to work I would be more than grateful to give it a shot.

OK. Here is the thread you are in need of. This will root your phone and give you the NEW cwm.

Plus I can tell by your baseband you are on Boost, correct?

Any OTA will kill the root. One click will no longer work. The thread above will do the trick. Many have tried, many have succeeded.

I am rooted! That thread was exactly what I needed. It took me a while to read through everything and get all the files. Once I got the concept of what to do I was able to load the rooted recovery for 2.3.6 with baseband x.FF27.

First thing I did was disable the Boost ID application (same as Sprint ID) and the Boost Zone. Other than that, I'm not to sure on what else I can disable to lower the Android System use. Any tips on this?

Do you have anything like rom toolbox or titanium backup?

This will allow you to freeze apps that weigh heavy on you system.

I have Titanium Backup; however, I downloaded Root App Delete and that is what I used to get rid of the Boost ID. So, i know you can check your battery usage - but how can you check to see what actual programs and/or processes are being used the most? Is there an app for that?


Edit - Root App Delete has a built in task manager - There is a task called "Android System - Run in background as service ImageWallpaper". Is this what is using all my battery since the battery meter says 80% is used by "Android System"?

I just checked my battery usage and I'm at 62 for android system. I don't think the usage is accurate. I believe there was a post I found awhile ago that stated the same thing. There is a fix but I will have to try and find it.

Right now I froze system update and the last four of Google framework services on advanced mode. Plus going to startup services and killing everything that has a button or app does the trick. I can last about 15-20 hours with those killed. And I'm always on here posting. At least 20-30 posts a day with out plugging in.

I think i have reach a more manageable battery usage. I disabled sync and auto update and some of the phone features I know I will not use. In addition, I installed Battery Saver and I have tried out the three different levels. I'm also using Battery Indicator to keep track of how long it has gone unplugged. So far i'm at 6 hours with 47% left. During this time, i've been downloading new apps, configuring my screens and used the navigation for about 30 min.

At the moment, there is a great improvement in the battery life. Thanks for your help - you've help make this phone even more fun to use

Oh, I also installed the Advanced Task Cleaner to auto kill tasks like Maps, Facebook, etc after I lock the screen or the screen times out.

As far as ROM's go, i'm a little skeptical. If you can show me a demo video (like on youtube) of a specific ROM that will work for my phone I will consider it. Don't get me wrong, i'm all about custom OS setups - I run Kubuntu Linux dual boot with Windows on my desktop. I'm just so used to the stock ROM and how it works. If I were motivated enough (like through a visual demo) I wouldn't mind relearning how to use a custom ROM.

Nice Rom, very nice actually. Looks like it has some of the features from android 4.0 and then some.

Question 1: was the video made with an emulator or an actual phone?
Question 2: If I flash the rom will it wipe all my apps, files, etc?

The video was made by emulator.

Yes you will lose all apps. Files and such that are saved to sdcard are safe.

I even posted ways to get all your apps back.

Data you will lose as that is saved to internal storage.

You can't use titanium backup to restore data as it has potential to not work right (apps). Apps have to be fresh install. If you follow instructions I posted, you would be fine.

Today, I followed the instructions and installed the rom you sugested. It was easy. Love the Rom!!! It has all the features I like from Android 4.0 and then some! And its so fast!! Thanks for the recommendation!

I appreciate the help. I originally replaced this device for the HTC EVO from boost because of the 4.0 OS... but after installing this ROM, I gave the EVO to my wife. I love this phone now. Its amazing how much manufacturers cripple a device by loading it down with sponsored bloatware. It makes jail breaking even more rewarding.
