Help help partition stock rom

Can someone help me partition my factory Samsung galaxy precedent rom or if someone is generous and could do it for me I could tell u the sizes the partitions I want to change are data, system,dev I would really appreciate any help

can anyone please help me i really need this done i am willing to do all of the work or most of it i just need some guidance to get on the right path

Data, system and dev aren't partitions, they're folders in the root filesystem of the phone. The size of a folder is the size it needs to be to hold the files that are in it. If you add files the folder gets larger. (This is actually just conceptual - folders have no real "size". They're composed of a directory listing and the files that are "in" them. They have no physical existence, the way partitions do.)

I know they are files but they have limits I want to change the size so it can hold more files the limits are: /sys 161mb, /data 161mb, /dev 150mb. I want to take some of the space out of the Dec folder and put it in the system and data folder so that it will look like: /system 211mb, /data 211mb, /dev 50mb. This is what I am trying to achieve I am willing to do all the work I just need assistance on how to do it and get it done

I believe that the 161MB limit is all the space you have left. You can't make a directory larger than the amount of memory available.

The amount of free space in a directory is the amount of free space on the storage device. It's the same for all directories on that device.

If /dev is in one partition and /system and /data are on another partition, you can repartition the storage, but you'll need some dynamic partition resizer (assuming that the partitions sit where they can be resized the way you want), or you'll have to back up all the directories on both partitions, delete them both, recreate them as the sizes you want and restore all the directories.

It's not as simple as just changing some numbers. If there's no space at the top of the partition you want to make larger, you can't make it larger, so you have to do the delete/recreate thing. You also can't move the bottom of a partition.

Someone who knows how partitions look on the device (we can't say "drive" here), and has the right tools, can do what you want in 10 minutes or so. Someone who doesn't have the tools can't.

Could I? Possibly. It depends on how the partitions are currently laid out.

Would I risk it on a phone I couldn't afford to throw away? No.

I'd flash a ROM that gave me more room. I currently have 2GB of "internal" space with Area51 version 3.2 and, as much of a software junky as I am, I doubt that I'll run out of space.

If you're talking about 2 directories in the same partition, the available space for either of them is the free space on the partition. They'll take as much space as they need until the partition itself is full.

If you want more space for apps, save anything on your SD card to your computer.

Download the latest Area51 ROM. Follow the directions to install it, but make a 1GB (or larger - it depends on the size of your SD card) ext4 partition on the SD card, then install the ROM. You';; have 1GB (or more) of "internal" storage for your apps. You don't have to do anything special - the ROM will use the partition on the SD card for apps.
