Way to delete 3,000+ text messages quickly?

Hi, I have over 3,000 text messages on my phone, and I need a decently quickly way to delete them. I've seen a few other posts on here about this topic, but everything everyone has said isn't working for my phone. I've tried downloading the SMS Backup & Restore app; it was working fine while backing up my text messages, but now I'm trying to delete them all, and it is taking FOREVER. It's been deleting messages for over an hour now. And I'm not sure whether to stop it or not, because on other threads people have said that this app doesn't work, so I don't want to be wasting my time. I've also tried deleting them on the stock message app and Handcent, but it takes forever, too, and the stock message app just force closes when I try.

I just tried to do that with Handcent - didn't work, all texts were still there.
So I uninstalled Handcent, then went back to Applications to see if the stock message app was in the list so I could clear the data and try that, but it is not in the list.

Are you sure you looked under "the All" tab in the app list? By default the app list in the settings shows the downloaded apps. Also what phone and what Android version do you have? and what ROM?

Thanks for the advice, I now see the stock message app under the "all" tab. I couldn't find it at first.
But anyway, the problem is fixed now - I plugged in my phone and hit the "delete" button on the SMS Backup & Restore App, left it like that overnight, and when I woke up, all the messages were deleted.

Here the step for the fastest way to delete:
1. Backup All SMS using "SMS Backup & Restore" app to your externalCard
2. Your devices must be rooted
3. Open root explorer, go to /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databeses/mmssms.db
4. if you want you can copy the current "mmssms.db" to externalCard for backup too
5. Delete current "mmssms.db" file
6. Restart phone
7. Now all your sms will disappear, if you want restore just some of sms threads, you can restore them using "SMS Backup & Restore" app from the backup sms data that already made
