Need help convincing parents to get me an N1

Ok. So, my birthday is in less than 2 weeks and I was wanting a Nexus One. I'll be 16 and have had a phone since I was around 13. My mom is a huge Apple fanatic and she insists that I get an iPhone 3Gs. I don't want one so I'm trying to convince her to get me an N1. So far, it hasn't worked.

She wants me to give her good, concrete reasons as to why I should get this. I've told her that the N1 is better in specs and I've even showed her some reviews. I think her mind is starting to change so I'm asking you guys to help me out here.

Can y'all just write down the things that you like the most about the phone and, if you came from an iPhone, why you like it better. Thanks in advance. :)

oh man... $530 is going to be a hard sell vs. the $200 subbed 3GS... also if you're 16 you're kindof beholden to your parents... I'm 29, a professional and so uh... i buy anything i want. If you really want it and your parents won't go for it go get a job and pay for it yourself. Also, if they re-up your contract sell that phone on craigslist or something and use it to subsidize your nexus. If they say it's ok :)

apple fanatics... gouge my eyes out... i can't stand that company.

i had an iphone b/c it was the best at the time, now the nexus one is out and i can do whatever i want with it. No tethering to itunes, no pain in the ass to get my music on and off... it just works and it does what i tell it to do.

the "I want it now" generation....

I think the original author asked for us to provide reasons why the N1 is better than the 3GS. Therefore, commentary as to whether he needs it or not, or if his parents should make him pay for half are really irrelevant, and quite really not any of our concern. Plus, I'd be as bold as to say that pretty much everyone on this forum is part of that "I want it now" generation.

To address the original post IMO these are the reasons I prefer the N1 over the 3GS:

- Better screen (not so much in the outdoors)
- Better processor
- Customizable
- Android OS (open)
-Tethering
- No real app restrictions
- Google
- Better camera
- No iTunes

b/c apps aren't censored in the android market. actually your parents might like the censorship so you might want to skip that one;).

all the reasons zetroc gave are good.
also, since you will start driving soon, the n1 gives you free gps via google maps, while you have to pay monthly fees on a non-jail-broken iphone.

I came from an iPhone, and in fact still own and use my 3GS and the Nexus One.

Although I do enjoy the Nexus One, I have to say.. go with the iPhone. For me, personally, the apps make the phone, as long as we're talking about a capable piece of hardware. They're both great "phones" but for now, Android is crippled by the lack of quality content available for it.

It sounds dumb, but I bought the Nexus One with the intent to make it my only phone, but I just can't separate myself from the iPhone. The experience with iPhone is better thought out than the experience with Android (I realize I'm going to get pounced on for saying this). That isn't to say that Android isn't going to be amazing some day, but at this moment, it's just not, and to buy a phone and hope it turns out, over a phone with a great experience now, is.. well, silly, in my opinion.

Also, I realize I'm about to contradict myself, but iPhone OS 4.0 will likely be out this summer and SHOULD address a lot of the complaints people have about iPhone at the moment. Not everything, some things will never change with Apple, but given how GOOD the experience is now, I would expect that it will only get better.

Alright, let me have it :)

I don't think you understand what "crippled" means. For me? Crippled is the inability to customize anything, tether, install third-party apps, multi-task, and much more out of the box. The iPhone can't even be used as a giant USB stick. How moronic is that?

If by "GOOD" you mean "my own phone treats me like I'm a five-year-old child," then sure. Not everyone enjoys being treated that way, though.
