Copying Music On Phone

This makes no sense.

I plugged in my phone, browsed the phone from my comptuter, and I have two options.

Internal Storage

and

SD CARD


so I open SD CARD, and I have

.android_scure

Android

DCIM

and

LOST.DIR

So I create a folder named Music, and dragged in about 8 songs or so.

I unplugged my phone, and opened astro.

I click on my files / then folders

and it shows me all my folders in my phone. When I scroll down to music I have a

/mnt/sdcard/Music folder

and a

mnt/sdcard/external_sd/Music...

Nothing is inside the /mnt/sdcard/Music as I can't even see that folder when Browsing the phone

I open the mnt/sdcard/external_sd/Music

Not only is all my music there, but everything copied twice. I have two of each song.....why?

How does this exactly work on this phone?

External SD is your SD Card , LG made this phone crazy weird so Apps to SD wont work and you must manually put everything on External SD since this phone technically has a "Internal SD" which is weird so I cant use my 8 GB SD Card for nothing! Can someone help me as well ,

*shrug* I copied twelve gigs or so of tunes to my SD and I didn't have any issues. I didn't go looking in my file manager for them though, I just copied them and went right to a few of my music apps. My music was detected properly and there aren't any dupes that I see.

well if you have some sort of micro sd adapter try that as well with you sd card out of the phone ive copied sfuff thru the phone as well and no probs

I have one , I Didnt Think of that , But How will I transfer my apps?

ive heard of some scripts out there that let you change the location of the apps to the external sd card what it does is it makes the phone think the external sd is the phones sd but this is for other phones i wouldnt try it unless your brave enough to risk bricking besides how many damn apps do you have on there

Yes, that's the thing, I can go into the music player too and see all my music fine, single mp3's for each one....no doubles.

But, when I actually look at the files as files, they are duplicates. It doesn't make any sense.

Its not lg. Its android 4.0. They left the USB mass storage for mtp. Instead of back than when you had certain memory for apps and the rest for the system, you now have one amount of memory for everything so no need for app2sd.
I would recommend moving all your music to internal SD card to avoid media server issues unless you have no room.
Keep what you dont want to lose in external because a restore deletes the internal one.

Well if I knew about that I would most likely stick with a LG Connect replacement.. Well also we have to wait for more games to be ics compatible because that happened with new phones ...

Android 4 makes it hard.. someone should come out with a one click script like one click root fixing this

I would love to move it all to the internal sd, but when the phone is connected usb, you can't even access the internal sd folder

I dont want to start having to copy everything to the external sd, and then go into my phone on the phone, and copy and paste the files over...that's a huge pain

and that doesn't solve the duplicate problem

These phones are picky about SD cards but you should be able to access the phones 5gb internal memory without a problem. For SD card I have a reader on the front of my computer I copy the music from computer-> and then stick the card into the phone. No problems but I went through 3 SD cards before I found one that worked.

I don't have a card reader so I can't do it that way. I have to actually hook it up through mtp, and open the phone from my computer.

I have two choices

Internal Storage

SD CARD

Now, the SD card it shows is my EXTERNAL sd card not the internal sd card.

I am starting to think the Internal memory of the phone in general IS the INTERNAL SD

my wife's Esteem is the same thing when you browse the files on the phone there's an "externalsd" folder that's actually your physical SD card you inserted in the back of the phone. I thought this was normal after seeing her phone and my motion being my first android phone.

I guess you guys never dealt with this before.
Internal storage is the 5 gigs in your phone. External SD is your sd card.
When going through the file manager, /sdcard is the internal one. /sdcard/external_sd is your SD card.
Hope that explains it a bit.

Nod, I have seen tablets display internal memory and external cards this way - both as sdcard etc. I got used to it and never thought about it when it came up this way on my Motion.

I've copied both via the USB cable and plugging the card into an adapter and transfering the files that way without issues.

For normal use, I can't see running out of room any time soon.

also when you mount there should be 2 sd cards mounted on you cpu make sure to look i copy my stuff right on the external.sd without going thru sd/external sd which is why its maybe showing up twice with some of u guys .the external sd on the original sd is just a folder if you look thru it you will see that it is not the same size as your external sd card its just a folder inside your phones sd card. but look on your desktop and there should be the external sd mounted as well

you could always try using the wireless google music app....download google manager from the google play store onto your computer, then it'll ask you to import all of your music from whatever folder you chose ex: i tunes, let it import all of your music into google manager, then open the google music app on your phone ( the one with the yellow headphones), go to settings, click refresh, and you should see all of your music on your phone through a wireless connection, from there you have the choice to pin the music to your phone and store it, or just keep it on a wireless transmission....good thing is since you have metro pcs there isn't any data charge for keeping it on the wireless connection

Just for chits and giggles (since at the moment I am not using this for Music) I plugged into the computer and made a folder on the external sd card and named it Music. I dropped 15 or so tunes into the folder.

Unplugged the phone and can see the tunes in the folder thru Polaris Office and all songs play with the music players that I have installed, and all songs are available in my ringtone maker etc etc. So the need for sticking the sdcard into a adapter into the computer is not necessary!

Needless to say that I figured this would work since I already have a couple movies loaded onto external sd and they play as well! The items are not duplicated on my internal sd.
