Root unroot by master reset?

ok so wouldnt this make sense or am i missing something. if you did want to unroot for the 2.1 update which im obviously not gunna do now that i just saw a post for the desire rom. couldnt you just restore your phone. like master reset? prob a stupid question so im sorry haha.

Sorry the only restore is for factory data reset which states the following:





This will erase all data from your phone, including:

• Your Google account
• System and application data and settings
• Downloaded applications

It will not erase:

• Current system software and bundled applications
• SD card files, such as music or photos

Because just a factory reset does not unroot your phone. If you try, it will wipe everything but you will still have root and su app.
Root is in your system, not in data or cache.

Specifically, all the files required for root are on your /system partition, and a factory reset does not touch that partition at all.

It just clears your /data and /cache, which is all user data but no system files.

now what if you just installed the new 2.1 manually and used the update.zip to replace your current one?
