Was just wondering about maybe putting on the posts of avatar and info of every post a Male or Female checkbox with the option to check one or not or change at any time. ((((Female's can even check MALE if want to be unknown)))). The reason is some of us say he this and he that and then we get corrected by the poster saying they are a she, then we apologize for that, how are we suposed to know this. now optional, so if they don't want to check one or the other that is up to them. just wondering thoughts on this? and can it be done?

I tend to say, they said, rather than, he said, even if it breaks grammar rules.

Not all of our posters are comfortable disclosing gender - some are, some aren't - so that's how I've approached it.

Unfortunately, too many days I deal with reports where someone just has to act like they've never met a girl/woman before.

I'm not saying you're wrong, and I get this is made as a helpful suggestion and definitely out of respect for all concerned - and I am always all for that.

Just putting out this other tidbit as food for thought, no more nor less. :)

that is why i said the boxes could be there and is optional to check one or just leave them blank, thats the idea of it. maybe right under the avatar.

This is why I think it would do more harm than good.

You may feel like a fool for calling a girl a guy and being corrected, but its better than sexual harassment
yes that is for sure, and again that is why it sould be check boxes that are "optional", they do it on surveys and everything and is optional. if you don't want then don't. but if people correct you then they might just want to check a box.

Would you want check boxes under your avatar that says Male/Female. With the option OF NOT HAVING TO CHECK IF DON"T WANT OR CAN UNCHECK AT ANY TIME . Sometimes we say he this and he that and then get corrected by the poster saying they are a she. Now if you post a name that suggests you are female ok, but if had check boxes to check one or the other or none, what are your thoughts on this?

I think a small male or female graphic right next to the Online/Offline graphic would look much cleaner with the current forum layout. If they choose nothing, then it's simply no graphic at all.

Just my 2 cents. ;)

I've seen it on other sites, didn't seem to be a problem. Ladies who don't want the extra attention can always say they're a man. Doesn't really matter to me one way or the other, I have made the mistake before, but you can usually tell anyway.

For me personally (I won't speak for all women), it's a huge huge pet peeve of mine to be referred to as male (which happens all the time on forums and in Wow). I'm a bit more geeky, tech savvy, and to the point than most women so I've often been mistaken for a guy. It's annoying to say the least... so any chance I get to show that I'm not a guy in my forum info I'll jump at the opportunity. :D

As a male I see your point, but correct them on your sex ( female ) & move on or send them a PM to let them know, but doing what the OP is sugguesting in this overly sensitive society in which we currently live in is just not a good idea IMHO.

I'm a member of more forums than I care to admit (having several different hobbies other than modding my phone)... it's not a problem on those.

People like options. I want the option to show my gender somewhere under my Av.

I totally see both sides of this argument, but I just don't see why it is needed on a site that offers what this site does. Just saying.....

If I could edit my title, it would read what I add on most other forums, "Psychotic Female". It's always been a sure indicator for me (plus it shows my fun side lol). :D

If you were a Premium Member you could add a custom user title & put it there as well. :thumb: This is totally up to you of course.

C'mon Treb! You're not fooling anyone with that "You could change your title if you went premium" stuff... We all know you're just trying to get more 2 pointers for the next (if there is one) TOW. :D:p;)

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Well if you were Gold we would have won the last TOW in 2 days :D Here try this on & see how it fits :

Thanks for making this thread, Cwhatever.

As stated above, I too have seen this option on other sites and have never seen it being a problem. If someone is worried about sexual harassment then they have the OPTION not to give out the information. Simple. I think it would be a good option to add for those of us who don't mind sharing what gender we are.

I can't count the times I've seen where a female has had to make it known that she was a SHE, not a HE. I have a feeling that there are quite a few of the ladies in here that would love to see the option added.

As for people who want to act childish and don't know how to treat a woman, do we really need them or want them on this site anyways?? I'm a MOD on another site and I have absolutely no tolerance for such actions. Any sexual attack on another member = a ban. Period. ;)
