ultra keyboard trial

For those of you who don't swype. It's a new keyboard if you want to give it a try. Free in the Market.

Thanks for letting people know! I develop that keyboard.

I realize the nag is a bit annoying. I tried to make it a little less intrusive (30 seconds enabled, 5 seconds disabled, continue) so people can get a feel for the keyboard. I wish I could just make it a totally free app, but I've put a lot of time into developing it, and as everyone knows, time is definitely money. I'd even be happy to make just enough money from this so I can justify spending so much time on it!

If anyone has suggestions on how I can make this one of the best keyboards on the market, please do let me know. Also, if you have a suggestion on how I can make the free trial a little more useful, while still allowing some people to buy the full, let me know too!

Thank you!

It definitely should work! :) Matter of fact I've been answering emails from the market.

The address I have (from the marketplace) is "android@binarybuldge.com". binarybuldge.com doesn't resolve in dns, in fact, I just checked GoDaddy.com and it says that binarybuldge.com is available for purchase.

Now my observations: The stock keyboard sucks. It's laggy, and whoever decided to place the "settings" button next to the spacebar was an idiot. The fact that there's no "send" button in landscape mode is another stupid move. I really don't understand how this thing could have passed QA.

I've tried Swype, Better Keyboard, Even Better Keyboard, and Thick Buttons. I didn't like any of them for various reasons. I found Ultra Keyboard yesterday thanks to this thread, and have to say that, so far, it seems to be the best one yet. The only thing I miss from the stock keyboard is long pressing on the letters to get symbols (i.e. if I write "how are you?" I have to type the letters, then press the "?123" button to get the question mark).

But I have to say, that nag screen is just a huge pain to try to evaluate the keyboard with. I absolutely understand that you want to make money. I've written software for 20 years, I know you rarely ever break even on this kind of stuff, you do it for the love of it. But I honestly think that, if you changed your nag strategy to give the user a few days of only a few nags each day, then started reducing the time between nags, they'll get a much better feel for it.

Finally, where can I buy the app? I was ready to purchase it yesterday to get rid of the nag and give it a real try for 24 hours before deciding to keep it, but can't find it. In fact, I just checked again, and now I don't even find the trial in the market (droid eris running 2.1 leak)

Thanks and good luck!

I suggest a trial that expires or at least has full functionality for a few days and then goes to the pop ups.

Thanks for this write-up.

Agree on the stock keyboard. It sucks for multiple reasons. Turning the send button into an emote button is one of the reasons. I know they wanted to keep you from accidentally sending too early by hitting the wrong key, but I remedied that by requiring a long-press. Also, the stock keyboard in landscape mode shows 2 action buttons... one to the right of the editor, and one on the keyboard. I got rid of the top one.

Try long pressing the period ("."). You'll get more punctuation (?!'" etc).

Also agree on the nag gripes. I want people to have enough time to get a feel for it. I updated the trial to not nag you for 12 hours. After that, you can stop the nagging again by un/re-installing, if you want another 12 hours. Hopefully that's a decent compromise.

One last question... I know I've been talking to you in the announcement thread, but I just realized you saw the early trial on the market, before I had to change the pname for various reasons. Were you running 2.1 when you grabbed the first trial? If so, I'm highly confused.

Oh, and for anyone following, the whole email/nx domain issue mentioned above is due to the fact that I was misspelling bulge. The proper email is android@binarybulge.com

Thanks for clarifying. Oh, and I do very much own the domain. I don't have a site up currently, but I respond to emails. The site will hopefully be up soon... I need a place for people to download the Desktop software for the remote keyboard feature! ;-)
