How effective I will be, I don't know but I can try and find one.

What's exactly would be wrong with using a 4g kernel? It still has the 3g parts in it. Just asking for knowledge not trying to be smart.

I wanna try but I dont wanna brick my phone because I dont have the money to get a new one right now anyone willing to test???:thinking::thinking:

We have safe guards against bricking our TUs its called using odin to flash phone back to working state so that shouldnt be a problem...

Working on cm anything has proven to be iffy on our phone to the point of bricking it beyond what odin can save... If the kernel is wrong it will ramdump in the bad way.

Well I got the GS3 boot.img but its 4g.....:(

You can stop this development right here and now. You cant flash another phones kernel to the ultra. We have different Paritions, CPU, GPU the list is endless and theres no doubt about it when i say YOU WILL BRICK your phone if you try to flash another phones kernel.
Porting CM10 is entirely different, you cant just grab a ICS kernel and call it yours, thats not how its worls bro. You have to find a phone that is running ICS and that has the CLOSEST specs to the ultra then get that phones kernel and compare it to our kernel and make somes changes.
No disrespect bro but it doesnt seem like you have the knowledge of a Dev and i dont think you should be working on CM10. Bottom line is that if you continue to work like this you will more than likely to have your phone hard bricked soon, and no not even Odin can save it only samsung can.

Wow, talk about shooting someone down for trying, holy sh**!! Saying that someone doesn't have the knowledge of being a developer, wow, you act like there's a deadset way to go about developing, well guess what?? YOU'RE DEAD WRONG! I really didn't appreciate the comments you made to him man, at least he was trying to put forth some initiative... :/

Im not shooting him down for trying, just saying that he's way of doing things doesnt work at like that. Your right, theres no deadset way of becoming a developer but he obviously hasnt been studying up a few simple things.
Anybody can literally do what hes doing right now, all hes doing is grabing a stock system of files from CM10 and grabbing a random ICS kernel.
If it was that simple almost every android phome would run CM10 today, but its not.
Im just trying trying to prevent a few bricks no hard feelings to transformultra but thats not the way to go about doing things.

While there isn't 1 pathway to developing, there are right ways and wrong ways to do it.

Trial and error by making changes to code and seeing if its fixed is good for trying to fix some things like WiFi being broken.

Trial and error by taking things from other phones and flashing it in the hope that it works is just going to lead to error. In this case the error is a bricked device

While I currently respect everyone in the forums for what they do, mainly because a lot of time and effort put into everything they do, and I am a total noob at just about everything. Everything I am learning comes from the wonderful ppl here and as I learn, I pass that knowledge on to others like me. Just trying to do my part.

I agree with Chev as he, in more then one, built a h3ll of a ROM and knows the in and out of the system. This phone is not like others as Samsung put so many blocks around everything, by doing one thing wrong could very well have undesired effects. I am not new to programming (computers) so I know copying one ROM and making it your own does not work. Different systems require different codes whether it be a computer or a phone.

I know Chev was just trying to make a point and stop an eventual brick. Just one way things on the forum are taken out of context. It was more of a "I got to stop him quick before he bricks his phone" type of message. It was not designed to humiliate him by saying what he did was wrong. Just hold on and take a longer look at the ROM he made before he tests it and possibly have undesired effects.

Before ANYONE makes a reply to a post, one needs to remember, to take three or four looks at the post and think of what the other person is trying to convey instead of posting from the top of the head. Especially if you are not programming or helping in anyway.

BEFORE ANYONE TRY'S TO SAY SOMETHING:

THIS IS NOT MEANT TOWARDS ANYONE!!!!! EVERYONE IS GUILTY OF THE ABOVE AT ONE POINT OR ANOTHER. I MYSELF, HAVE DONE THE VERY SAME THING, SEVERAL TIMES. JUST SOME PEOPLE NEED TO TAKE IT EASY AND NOT JUDGE ONE ANOTHER. WE ARE ALL HERE FOR A COMMON CAUSE, TO JUICE THIS THING UP.
