i live in australia though so im useing the international version of the phone. id prefer not to root the phone mainly because i wouldnt want to mess it up.

Am I missing something here? I am running ICS on the S3 and use Google Wallet all the time.

Ah, that may be where the differences are. I am in the US on the Sprint Network.
There ya go. Sprint is the only one of the big US carriers that officially supports Google Wallet.

All the talk about american carriers really does not help, im from australia and all i wanna do is pay at the checkouts with my phone(because its cool).

If you don't have it now, I see no reason why this would change in the near future. It makes no sense for Verizon, AT&T and Tmobile to back ISIS just to drop it once it finally starts. They have a big investment in it.
we do not have at&t or sprint or verizon in australia. we have telstre, vodafone and optus. if i install google wallet via root and then unroot and go back to stock rom and such will i still have GW?
