Any new phone rumors for Sprint?

.. as a US citizen who doesn't have the kind of money it takes to move to another country, I'd rather invest in domestic industry in the hope that the US might turn around in time to give me a life worth living as I get older and less able to fend for myself alone. I have to have faith that Google and Motorola can come up with products that are at least as attractive as those designed by our free Chinese (Taiwanese) friends because I don't have much choice.

I agree whole-heartedly. But, unfortunately, Motorola seems to be married to VZW. VZW's got great coverage and the best data network, far and away, but they're too expensive for me. So I won't be buying Motorola product.

Too bad.

Looks like they opened their R&D office in the research triangle. Are is huge for biotech and electronics.

I built I540 through the heart of the Triangle a few years back. Very cool place to be in regards to tech.

They have been almost the captive supplier to Verizon for some time.

When Google bought them, they said it would be business as usual. Many believe that they acquired them just for the intellectual property portfolio.

So, it may follow very well. We'll see.

Thanks again! I didn't think about it much because I bought my Samsung Sprint phone specifically because I'd read that Google was switching from HTC to Samsung as their reference platform. So this was the first time I didn't look for a Motorola phone first.

I suppose I can kind of understand the VZW thing, since vzw.com is used by Verizon's wireless subsidiary. (I'm also old enough to remember when mot.com was Motorola's only 2LD. ) But I'm stumped by Big Red. To me that's gum. Maybe it's a regional thing?

I don't have any beef with Verizon, and nothing against buying from Big Business. Back when MCI cracked open the long distance market (one more sign that I'm old) I stood by the tried-and-true AT&T Long Lines as my long distance carrier back when Sprint was better known for dropping pins and blowing up microwave relay towers. (I wonder if they regret tearing down all those towers after they needed them for their cellular service. :rofl

OTOH my dealings with SBC by any of its names leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I have to say that I'm wary of Verizon because a lot of their customers seem to have the same basic complaints that SBC/AT&T customers do.

If Google bought Motorola's cellphone division, it seems doubtful that Samsung will be making the Android reference phone any more...

I don't have anything against VZW. It's just that their plans are too expensive for me. Since Motorola has become, effectively, a VZW-only product, I won't be buying Motorola. Simple.

SBC by any other name would smell as rotten. I avoid them to the extent possible.

LOL...I'm just being extremely speculative and it's really out of wishful thinking, but a tablet "accessory" under the Nexus banner that would work in conjunction with an Asus Nexus phone?...Yeah, I'd pay $99 for that accessory for sure!...hahahaha.

For all those that were disappointed in the MoPhoQ being the sole Motorola offering this year, maybe it wasn't such a bad thing:

If Motorola radios go bad, that's not a good sign at all since that was the absolute best thing I've experienced with the MoPho compared to other devices. I seriously hope that Google can really turn that ship around in the right direction, otherwise it won't be good for Googlrola. I am still giving them at least 1 year, from the time of "formal" purchase (beginning of 3Q 2012 was when everything was finalized), but if by 4Q 2013, Motorola hasn't significantly improved under Google...I'm not likely to consider another device from them for quite some time. It's such a shame because I still feel like Motorola produces the best accessories for multi-tasking with smartphones (although, I do have to give huge props to Samsung for the S-pen, which is absolutely unbelievable as far as stylus implementation on touchscreen devices).

It could be called the Nexus 5 with the 5 superscripted. Similar to the One X 5 pictured above, but with the Nexus logo nearer the camera (about 30% of the way down from the top) and the HTC logo at the bottom, no Beats branding.

Silly to hang a 5 on it imo, but nice if they finally go back to HTC.

I would expect a Nexus announcement soon. We're getting to the end of the year, and the announcement has traditionally been mid-October to mid-November. An LG Nexus would be intriguing. I would love another HTC Nexus, but I'm not sure if HTC is willing to go that route again.

Took Verizon forever to release the GNex, lot of what we heard involved internal politics over the open phone concept.

I do expect a delay between the GSM and Sprint Nexus, but not as bad this time if Verizon doesn't get involved again.

I'd be surprised if there were maker variations based on carriers. That would extend Google into the handset competition beyond their Motorola involvement.

The argument for or against the HTC Nexus may be political as well. HTC and Samsung are the ones taking a beating in court with Apple. An HTC Nexus would be profoundly revitalizing on many fronts.

As awesome as this would be, I think it's highly unlikely. It would have to be an EVO, and Sprint is not known for releasing improved versions of the EVO line after the launch of that year's flagship model. Later EVO phones are usually mid-range devices. Most likely the One X+ will go to AT&T (or maybe T-Mo).

The OG Evo. I am having issues with it just randomly rebooting. Even while it sits on my desk it will reboot.

I rooted the phone and put ICS on it, and it still reboots randomly, although less frequently than before. Its time for a new phone, and I have been eligible for a upgrade for a while now, but I don't want the current Evo or GS3 when all the rumored quad core phones are right around the corner. Maybe Sprint will get an Evo branded One X+
