Official progress thread for Cannibal Open Touch on Optimus Elite (Virgin)

Working:
ADB
Touchscreen buttons
Display (it shows stuff!)
Factory Reset
Nandroid Backups and Restores
USB Mass Storage mounting

Not working:
Probably everything else

Weirdness
Nandroid backup dates are apparently in 1980. Weird...

DDMS shows everything inverted, though it looks just fine on the actual device

This is caused by the way the VM version of the kernel handles the reboot to recovery command. Private Paste - Pastie
Code:
Command: "recovery" "--update_package=CACHE:"

I worked around it in the cwm by checking for "CACHE:" with no actual file specified afterward and ignoring it. Just about everything that uses time() gets a date from 1980, you can run the "date" command from adb and get those dates, too. I was only able to come up with a workaround so far. I'd be glad if you come up with an actual solution.

Wow, that makes zero sense. I actually just figured out that same workaround, and it seems to work well. Magically it fixed the issues I was having with the menus too....

As far as the date thing goes, I got nothin. I seem to recall an issue with 1980 on the Optimus S as well, but there was a very very specific cause for that (which I never experienced).

EDIT: Hmm, not only is it 1980, but the entire month, day and time are wrong as well. WTF?

what would make any developer use 1980 as a timestamp on system files?? maybe lg knowing that the elite relies solely on its date/ time settings through an active data signal figured to put in a fail safe time to revert to if total signal loss occurred. but why not just add simple settings to allow user to manually reset the date and time? I did have my elite lose complete signal and the time on the status bar was 12am also on lockscreen clock..and the date was Feb 5 1980. signal loss was about 10 mins. as soon as it came back,so did the correct date/time.

lol maybe..or I've drank to many Dr Peppers..either way, maybe recovery will need some basic access to data signal to properly keep its time and date instead of relying on system or whatever it gains this info from.

Yeah it should be able to gain it directly from radio signal, but that isn't active until actual boot up seemingly

Then let's do other stuff to it:D
I mean we've already beastified it so far
It IS happening, but this phone has lost a lot of momentum.

There was a post on Android Central recently, people couldn't believe there as a rom for this phone finally. And that is an issue, a lot gave up hope on it.

Then again, it could bring new life to it.

That surprise could also be a good thing in our favor, as you said, "Then again, it could bring new life to it." Hopefully it does.

I'm looking forward to COT's completion as well. Hopefully drew doesn't feel unappreciated.

EDIT: I can't wait to see one day that we've undone all of LG's mistakes and altered and cleaned up all of the code in enormously fundamental ways, turning this phone into something other than low end. Given the specs, it should be possible - even if right now it is a long shot. But with giantpune and Leslie at the helm, here, who's to say it can't be done? Thanks to you two and your groundbreaking work, this phone has a future.

ill tell you what the OE needs. some of those people still holding on to the optimus v to come on over now and upgrade to the elite. it is a phone worth the buy now. the OV community has super strong development. just one or two of those devs who build roms, etc to make the move would be a big thing for this phone.
Agreed, and it IS a good update to the Ov at this point.

Over the weekend I've had my wife's Optimus V and been comparing signal strengths between the two devices and they're always pretty close, but what I have been noticing on my Elite is no matter what it's Mobile network type is always CDMA - 1xRTT (despite the indicator always saying 3G which I know is being worked on) while hers is CDMA - EvDo rev. A
