Which Android app comes close to this iOS app

Yes, it has the functionality but the time it takes for locating your device is totally unacceptable. I tried both of my phones and more than 10 minutes, it could not locate my either of the phones.

Just came across Pocket.do, excellent at device location, there ARE flaws with other part though (like spy-cam) but it located both of my phones in less than 10 seconds.

Still looking for other solutions as a backup plan.

I use Cerberus with some Tasker profiles as a fallback.
In my (albeit limited) testing Cerberus has always done quick locates.

There are several, the one I use is Gotya which takes a silent photo from the front camera and sends it to whatever email/facebook account you like along with the the network or GPS coordinates. Works exactly as it says. Also has remote SMS commands to lock wipe etc.

ES Security Manager works via SMS and will send the GPS location of your phone, a backup of your SMS, contacts and various other stuff to your gmail account if it's linked correctly.

I have bad news, guys and gals: any 'pro' mobile device thief will pull the battery and the SIMcard within 5 minutes, rendering all security measures worthless, null and void.

So if you're realistic: don't count on ever getting your device back when it's been stolen. Quite the contrary: when it's gone, consider it well and truly gone. So then what?
Well you'll be getting a new device, won't you? And what are you going to put on it? You're going to be spending hours, days, to recreate the same set-up you had on the old phone? If you have a good backup data set that process will be much faster. So I recommend a two-step regime: regular backups (I do it once a week) to the SDcard, and regular data dumps: copying the entire contents of my SDcard to my main machine's harddisk or SSD, once a month.

Partly I agree with you. First thing the thief does is, pulls out battery, for the phones where its possible (I have HTX One X and Motorola Droid Razr and battery of these guys can not be removed that easily) and/or will remove the SIM card. Then all the time spent in configuring to find out this bugger will go down the drain.

I totally agree with you that we should be concentrating on backing up our phones. My phones are not rooted, neither do I plan to. I paid full MSRP for both the phones, my hard earned cash, so I will be using My Backup Pro instead. (Which apps do you use?)

Having said that, I don't want to let the bugger get away with it. I want that bastard to pay for it, if not I will make that phone useless by registering its IMEI number with police. How many of us know of missingphones.org ? I have never used it as lucky me, I never lost my phone or was stolen at a knife-point, so don't know how actually it works or even Police take efforts to brick the phone by knocking it off the cellular network.

I think, either of my efforts work to get these jobs done, I will be content with it. Until 2 months ago, I was using Nokia E63 and DW was using SE W550i, so honestly, if anything like stealing happens, I have no intention of letting the guy go easy.

I know this app and did consider it but after I read the reviews, I found it little too invasive, still if someone, like Lifehacker, does a review and confirms that its worth, I will buy it right away.

If you've ES Security Manager installed, and the SIM Card is changed, it will lock the phone, rendering it useless until your password is entered. I believe you can also configure it to send an SMS to a "safe" number notifying you of the location of the phone.

Obviously a factory reset would get around this, but on some handsets it's not obvious how to do that without actually being able to access the phones menu.

Even if the sim card is switched you can still track the device and it even sends you the new number if the sim card is changed. It also does just about everything else you would expect a good security app to do.

Meh, AVAST survives hard resets, meaning you can still track the phone down and prove its yours, if you really want to get it back.

True enough but certainly most mobile phone thieves in the UK are anything but "pro" - it's usually a snatch and run on the street. Hell the last burglar who tried to get into my house even failed to get past a padlock on next door's shed and I id'd our local street gang through their social network accounts (and laughable attempts at rapping).
I'm just keen to safeguard my data through remote wiping (I have automatic nightly backups via FolderSync) - any opportunity to ruin the thief's day / mess with them is just a bonus

Wow, this is mindboggling. I'm also looking for a good Tracking Device app. So many to choose from and deciding which may be the best.

I've been using Lookout, but never really tested the tracking part until tonight. While at work, it did find the phone but it was off by about 2-3 blocks from the job site. But the job's building where I'm located has a glazed glass roof. Lookout stated on their website that can cause the gps to be off pinpointing locations. I'll try it again when I get home and see how accurate it is.

Any other suggestions on an app?
