moved you to the rooting sections since you are rooted.

so i think that it is just a coincidence with your sd card. what rom and kernel are you on?

Can't say I've heard of an sd card causing a phone to do as yours does but run it a couple days without sd card then put it back in and see what happens :)

just keep in mind that the evo has issues with flashing files on a 2g card for some reason. it does not like PC36IMG files.

I didn't know that thanks..
an just a little update I've Ben useing the Crap outta my EVO for the last 2 hours with the 2g card and no shut offs so far.. throwing this out there.. on a stock EVO what would u guys think the random shut off thing is from??

hard to say. were you always on stock when the reboots started? if not then what rom and kernel were you using? what were you doing when it happened?

i had issues with random reboots in the past on my og evo. i tried different roms, and it still happened. i then tried a stock rom and i still had reboots. so finally i just decided to unroo the phone and see if i cn get it to reboot and sure enough it did. i then took it into sprint and showed told them about my reboot issues and they gave me a refurb.

I think it started in sos+ Rom unsure of Wht kernel was in it. I was just surfing the web but it would never reboot just shutdown (like the battery just got pulled out) just be typeing in Google and bam its off.. I think my EVO has a mind of it own Lol.

Yeah, complete shutdowns sounds like hardware. usually if the EVO is out of memory, it reboots. I'm just guessing though. Hard to troubleshoot the issue through a forum and not being able to physically hold the phone

my suggestion is to wipe everything but the sd card and try another rom. see if you can get it to do it again. if it does it on another rom, the the next step is to try a ruu. this will not unroot you but you wil loose your custom recovery which you can always re-install it. but it will give you a stock rom with a stock recovery. if it still does it then you have a real issue that is most likely hardware.

if you need help with this please let us know.

Okay guys, I may have really found a reason why my EVO was shutting off.. I've got 2 stock HTC batterys I'm beginning to believe they are junk/bad. My EVO was still doing it after the wipe and I got a new 16 gb card and it was still shutting off at random. However I put my HTC wildfire s battery in my EVO with some paper ha, and I went all day to day with out random reboots or shut offs !! and did not plug it in untill now. So maybe I've just got 2 bad HTC EVO batterys? I'm going to run my wfs battery untill Sunday . And I hope to report back with no reboots nor shut offs. Ps after Sunday with hopefully no shut offs ill put back in my HTC EVO battery and see if it does it..

I had to put the wfs battery back in so I could just type this lol! But now I need a good battery. So what should I buy??? I'm looking at the seidio 1750mah battery right now umm is this a good one to by?? Note I really don't want cheap junk

I personally bought an Anker brand 1700mah battery off of Amazon and it performs well for me. I dont remember what I paid tho:(
Sedio is a good brand also:)

How much battery life do u get outta it? In a day? I was looking at them also
Well, I get about 17hrs with about 20% left. But it varies.:)
Minimal use, no internet surfing, minor texting, no gaming, some phone calls.
Now that will vary phone to phone, rom, kernel, screen on times etc.
Battery life will vary alot from phone to phone, person to person ya know?:)
I chose that battery based on research/reviews and it didn't add bulk to phone as the 3500mah batteries will.

My evo started doing random reboots a while back, when I was still running stock unrooted. The culprits seemed like Google Maps & Navigation. It was infrequent, but would happen at least once on long trips using those apps. Other people were complaining about the apps, so I thought it was app specific and ignored it.

I rooted, but the problem got worse over time, with random reboots happening frequently while running Maps or Navigation, running browser to a high data using website, Dogcatcher Pro downloads while browsing, etc. I was getting several random reboots a day at the end.

I tried different ROMS, the GPS fix, changing microSD cards, hard reset, had the battery evaluated for flaws (and also tried different batteries), I partitioned my microSD card... heck I even followed one person's advice and rebooted my phone every day on purpose. Nada.

My phone has not randomly rebooted in two weeks now. What did I do?

I'm currently running CyanogenMod 7.2. I went to Settings/CyanogenMod Settings/Performance/Allow Purging of assets. I then rebooted and have had no random reboots since.

I have been using Google Maps & Navigation without problem. I have been using Navigation while downloading on Dogcatcher Pro & surfing the internet and not even a blink from the phone.

I can't promise my method is what fixed everything, but it was the last thing I did and I haven't had a problem since. It makes sense too. Our phones are chewing through enormous amounts of data, I can see the processor overloading and shutting down... this fix simply allows the phone to shed some of the work and stop freaking out. At least IMHO.

Follow-up: I'm afraid my "fix" was a false lead. For two glorious weeks, I had no random reboots. They started again yesterday.

At first they weren't full rebooting, the phone would freeze for a couple of seconds then skip to the lock screen. Then (while running Navigation) I started getting full reboots.

I've heard that swapping out for a refurbished has worked for some... maybe ill try that in a few weeks. :(
