Straight Talk ZTE Merit Z990G,

Stock, Rooted Nandroid--all stock, just with root

**download using a pc--i do not support / suggest using your phone to download files**

a) must have clockworkmodrecovery

merit.stock.rooted.rar

1) extract the .rar file

2)
copy / cut and past the "clockworkmod" folder to the root of your sdcard, ie:

/sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/merit.stock.rooted/[imgs, etc]

3)
reboot into cwm recovery

4)
choose "backup and restore"

5) choose "restore"

6)
choose "merit.stock.rooted"

7)
choose "yes - restore"

8) let it finish and then reboot

This is a complete stock nandroid, only it has been rooted--you will have to install supersuser form the market

HIT THE THANKS BUTTON

This gives me something extra to play with ;).

EDIT:
By the way, interested in selling/donating a Merit? Mine died on me.

sorry my friend, i'm hanging on to it for worst case scenarios--otherwise i would.

i'm hoping you might be able to do some work with this though for others around here who want new things but still full functionality on the straight talk phone.

i probably should've done this a while back for everyone.

Just did the recovery with this ROM, all works fine. Thank you so much for this. Did lose contacts and all of that, but no biggie, time to reinstall everything.

you can backup your contacts to your sdcard very easily. all you have to do is press the menu key in your contacts and choose backup to sdcard. simple.

i guess it's a little late for that now, but now you know

i had an extra Straight Talk ZTE Merit that was completely unused that was still in the box until just a few moments ago

there is no google account associated with the phone, no removed apps, no added apps, no personal information, no settings changed--this is a real STOCK condition ROM

except that it has been rooted

and clockwork recovery mod has been flashed

then a nandroid backup was made

LINK: REAL STOCK OEM MERIT NANDROID.rar

THIS IS EXACTLY LIKE IF YOU OPENED IT OUT OF THE BOX AND THE ONLY THING YOU DID WAS ROOT IT.

THIS IS FOR ALL THOSE THAT DESPERATELY NEED A WAY TO GO BACK TO STOCK ON THE STRAIGHT TALK MERIT. YOU WILL NEED CLOCKWORK RECOVERY FLASHED TO BE ABLE TO FLASH THIS ROM.

HIT THANKS IF THIS HELPS YOU.

I gave you a big thanks
This will be very handy for all the straight talk users

now to the hard part ....im very much a newb to this stuff. I got drunk the other night and totally screwed up my new Merit.....I did manage to get the root to work, but then attempted to remove bloatware....now the damn thing keeps rebooting and idk what i did. I desperately need to flash the ROM back to factory as i've noticed that i deleted some apps and god knows what else. if you could give me a play by play as to what i will need and how to accomplish this task i would be very grateful.

you need to flash clockworkmod recovery: http://androidforums.com/avail-all-...t-side-up-avail-merit-roamer.html#post5004729

which means you need to hook up your phone to the usb of the computer, make sure usb debugging is on; then turn on usb storage;

download the recovery.img from the thread above and copy it to the root of your sdcard.

you also need to copy the stock rom image from this thread to the root of your sdcard: unzip it, then cut the folder clockworkmod and paste into sdcard. the structure should be as follows /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/1980-01-06.00.18.47/(all the recovery files)

then turn off usb storage. the follow the directions to flash the image.

once it reboots into recovery, choose backup and restore, then choose restore, and pick the stock rom image from this thread.

done.

I backed mine up first thing, but this is great for those who didn't.

Speaking Of stock. I Found this thread take backup of stock ROM - ZTE Skate - Skate.MoDaCo.com - MoDaCo And was wondering if we Could use something like this To get a true stock r o m. I wish I would have found this before I rooted. But maybe someone else can try. It basically uses than adB shell to open clock work on the phone without installing it or rooting.

Yeah I assumed, it's doing solid, and I guess if it comes to it I'll delete the factory camera and replace it with something else, just unsure what I lost along the way

if you've deleted anything since restoring this nandroid, make sure you didn't delete the stock email app. the camera requires it. and that has been posted no telling how many times on these boards.

if you've not deleting anything, then do a factory reset and wipe the cache partition. that should fix your issue

Went back for blue tooth. Wish the processor ram faster tho. Maybe/Hopefully someone wants to take on this project.

well, i'm trying to get to modding the kernel, but the file extract-files.sh that must be run to pull certain prerequisites from the phone refuses to run in order to build cyanogenmod kernel for our phone. haven't figured out why exactly.

i'm actually planning on doing several things as i get time. i spent a lot of time this weekend just on the recovery, which did help me learn quite a bit in the process.

It was the cache thing, it works fine now, I'd read that somewhere or another since my last post and tried it but haven't been online.

Thanks!

Couldnt have been easier to get rooted this is perfect. I grabbed the non root recovery and this and now rooted with one two three. Took all of about 5 mins

that's how you rooted? interesting. i didn't think of that.

Merit or Avail???

did you make a nandroid of your phone before you restored the rooted stock nandroid? if so, upload to mediafire and post a link in the other thread please. i would appreciate it.
