Root Notes from the frontlines...(my conversation with LG about the bootloader)

I wish I hadn't sold my admire
How much did ya get for it? Mine's barely 4 months old now and it's become an IP phone. I JUST got the MS770 yesterday! I'm gonna tinker with it, rip up the framework and systemUI, see what makes it tick. I shouldn't have sold my x64 Ubuntu lappy. I've changed carrier name and boot animation and sounds so far. I have faith in the devs the bootloader and recovery part will be cracked soon :)

I sent LG an email requesting an unlock tool for the bootloader, and this was their reply :

Thank you for contacting LG Electronics

------Reply to Your Inquiry-------

Dear Daniel Cabarcos Jr,

We do not support or have any information about unlocking the bootloader or altering root level system files as this may void the warranty on the device.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any additional questions or concerns. Thank you again for contacting LG Electronics.

I'm going to answer letting him know we've have root already, and that it would be in their benefit to provide us with the tools, as it would encourage development for the phone.

Dear Daniel,

Thank you for contacting LG Electronics. I am delighted to hear from you as our valued custome r, I do apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced and I will be glad to help you out here.

Unfortunately the operating system that runs in the phone actually belongs to the carrier, this m eans that, if there would be an alteration to the software of the product it would require to be aut horized by both LG and Metro PCS.

I hope this information is helpful. If you have any other questions or concerns, please do not he sitate to contact us again either via email, or by calling our customer service division at 800-24 3-0000 at your convenience.

yeah that is not from the correct e-mail address.....anyone who says we need to contact metro about it is not the right person to be talking to...they do not know what they are talking about...Metro did not make this phone...the bootloader unlocking is not a carrier issue

Message i sent them, here is the response;

Dear Eddie

Thank you for your interest about our mobile phone.

“We received your request on LG Open Source Code Distribution site(Open Source Main).

This site is just for providing source codes of FOSS(Free and Open Source Software) we have used in our product.”

We already delivered your request to relevant department and we are still waiting for response from the department.

They are looking for a more efficient and safe method to unlock bootloader

We regret to inform you that It’ll take more time.

We hope this information will help you.

Thank you.

Sincerely yours,

LGE MC Company Open Source Code Distribution Center

those bastards. :p
I am not a lawyer, but i always thought, and please correct me if i am wrong, that there was a law that prevents businesses from not releasing open source information.
