I see that "Lookout Security & Antivirus" has come out with a new version. I have never had it installed and really don't think I need the antivirus protection. I am interested in it because of the "locate" your lost phone features. Iknow there are other apps that provide this feature but the others seem to require text services and I don't have text service.

Would appreciate your comments on this app or suggestions on alternate apps for locating lost phone.

Lookout is good. Get it.

And for double insurance you can download and install free 'Plan B' on your device AFTER you lost it, to locate it.

Thanks for the response, I have installed Lookout and it does seem like a good app. I was worried that the antivirus portion would bog down the phone but I don't see any difference.

You can see it in action, in the notification bar, when you download and install a new app. But it isn't disruptive or intrusive, and otherwise runs invisibly in the background.
Tested the location and scream features yet?
I remember a Youtube report of over a year ago of a guy who was carjacked in front of his house, and the thief made off with this guy's phone in the car. So the guy called up Lookout's location service on his PC's screen, called the cops, and gave them a blow-by-blow of the car's position. It was recovered in 7 minutes by the boys in blue.

Which is why carjackers in e.g. South Africa, Mexico, and Brazil simply kill their victims before making off with the car...

I dropped my phone one day and didn't notice for several hours. That is one awful feeling when you find you've lost something so important and so expensive. Anyway, as soon as I found out, I ran to the nearest computer and logged into Lookout's website and started the "find my phone" function. It led me right to my phone which was lying in the street several blocks away. I was extremly lucky that no one found it or drove over it with their car.

I don't use many of the other functions, but I will testify that their phone location software is extremly awesome and a lifesaver!

Yes, I have tested both the location and siren and they work great. I am real estate agent and I sometimes meet people that I really don't know so I have it set for my wife to peek into my location anytime she needs to (Must make sure that I disable the service when I am with my girlfriend ;))

i love Lookout.

1. it can find your phone if it's lost or stolen - even if your battery dies.
2. it's lightweight - it uses very little battery and resources.
3. the malware detector works. i tested it by purposely installing "SMS Replicator" and it caught it on my phone after a scan.
4. i trust them - they are a reputable AMERICAN company based in the U.S.
5. it's FREE.

IMO - install it.
