htc hero noob questions?!?!

few noob questions i had a g1 until i got rid of it, so not a total Noob. i have a plam pre with sprint and i just sold it and waiting for the htc hero, do you guys know how this will all work with the android updates that the acutal google phones get? does the htc get those as well? or htc well get different updates then the android android phones? if that makes any sense please help me. also how about the internal space are we going to run out of room just like on the g1? any new on sd saves with out rooting yet? last question anyone know how much this thing is going to cost with out contract?!

I've read that internal mem is only 512mb and you need the SD cards to extra space. I am guessing w/o a contract mid $500 with contract I believe I saw somewhere say $189.

The ROM is 512MB, and 288MB is available as RAM. That may not sound like much but these aren't PCs remember; everything is highly optimised for efficiency. Even Google Maps only occupies 2.8MB.

The expandable memory (micro SDHC) is only normally available for storage of user data e.g. music, video, data files etc.
