I think the Facebook app is crap in general. But I had also had the issue where data kept dropping out on me, no matter where I was. Ended up contacting Verizon and going through several steps:
- First, I went and got a new sim card. Didn't fix it.
- Called them and told them it didn't fix it, and then they had me reboot in safe mode to eliminate any software interference. That wasn't it.
- They had me try downloading a tool from the Play store that supposedly 'fixes' issues caused by battery saver apps. Didn't work
- They ended up sending me a replacement phone. Didn't do it.
- Called them yesterday and let them know it wasn't working. Answered various questions about where I live, where I normally use it, etc. etc. Rep checked on the network and things like that. Eventually what he did (at least what I interpreted) was remove my data plan all together in their system, had me remove the battery and sim, then he added the plan back and had me put the sim and battery back in.
Now, since then, I have to say that the data has been more reliable. Facebook still seems to flake out, but not nearly as often. So you may want to go through Verizon and have them try that trick with yours. Hearing that the ICS isn't coming is freaking depressing though. To think that I'm stuck with this phone for two years and no update is terrible. That's truly a rip off if true, as many LG phones (not just ours) were promised ICS updates.
If this last 'fix' didn't/doesn't work, their next step was to open a trouble ticket on the towers in the area. So, that will give you a good idea of how few problem reports they get on this phone. They'd rather check a bunch of towers than maybe offer me something else.
But I would encourage anyone if they are having issues to report them and not just live with it. Maybe if we get enough incidents together, they may decide to do something (i.e. replacements or an upgrade).
