Tried the Moto droid today, Bad idea

One of my employees has the Moto and I was trying to get Swype for him today and guys, I gotta say that phone works far better than ours. I have been loyal to the Eris but today was a rude awakening. We really got a 2nd rate device compared to the way that Moto works. Fan boys go ahead and flame away but I hope the Incred or Nex works as well as the Moto or Im Defecting.

When you buy a phone under a 2 year contract, it should last you 2 years, no need to waste $500+ just to get a new phone. That's my philosophy.

oh come on, the only thing they've got over us is a slightly better processor, a bigger screen and a keyboard... you can't tell me you like the feel of the clunky Droid over the intelligently designed, sleek feel of the Eris.

Best of luck to you. I researched both the Droid and the Eris before I updated to the Eris, while I was with my iphone bud at the store. Both agreed the Eris was the phone of choice. Another friend of mine had his company switch from BB to Droid. At lunch the other day I played with his Moto as well as my iphone bud who was there, and when we got back to the car, both of us realized how much better the Eris was compared to the Droid we just played around with. I say to each his own and if your happier with the Driod then I wish you nothing but phone bliss happiness.

The reason I went with the Eris was the form factor, Yeah I dont like the cinder block feel of the Moto but the thing operated the sw smooth as butter. Except for the shapes how can you say the Eris is better. Im not using my phone for movies or as a multi media device, its a work smart phone. Again I HOPE the Incred or the Nex are comparable in performance to the Droid and I will stay in the HTC camp.

I did more than my fair share of research before buying my phone. My mistake was basing everything off of assumptions, and I have myself to blame, not VZW. Q1 has come and gone and I should have known carriers dupe many times and that it's nothing special. The Droid didn't really miss out on a whole lot since they had 2.0 to begin with, but they were promised 2.1 earlier as well and here they are getting it the same time the Eris was promised.

So yes, the Droid is a better phone, but when it comes down to it, I prefer performance and looks. But if the looks suck, screw it.

This was just a personal assumption from an Eris and Iphone user. Hey we could be wrong and according to our Droid friend we are. Just like when the Droid user wanted a new car and asked what my thoughts were between the Audi and BMW, I stated the Audi is the better choice. Well he bought a BMW and he is a happy camper with his choice. Whether it be a phone or a car, which is better is up to the user and their personal choice. As days go by new and better phones will continue to hit the market and yes one day I will want to upgrade.

Yes the droid is a better albeit uglier phone, so what? It also costs more, I couldnt touch the deal I got on an Eris with the droid so that's that. I don't expect a flagship phone for 30 bucks ( oh thats right I got two of them for that price). Its like going into a Ford Focus forum and telling them you test drove a beemer and its a way better car.....whats the point?
So anyway if I wanted to carry a shoebox in my pocket I would have gotten the droid, but I'm quite content with my Eris.

I have a couple VZW upgrades waiting so as soon as some new offerings are in the stores Im going testing. Now that Im slick with droid OS I will a better shot at evaluating the phones.

See I dont have to pay for phones so I want one that runs properly. yeah I dont want a shoe box and dont need that keyboard either, I just want a phone like the Eris to work as well as that Moto.

A buddy has an S4-V8 to sell ya but is not convertible. A4 3.0 here. Have you seen the 2010 S4 3.0T? Beautiful car, way past my budget.

My eris was free so I can't bitch. My parents bought the Droid and since they bought it I got a free Eris.

By the way, the screen responsiveness on the droid sucks. The Eris is comparable to the Nexus one (almost exactly the same) which still, sadly, comes in second to the iPhone. Actually, if I remember correctly, the Palm Pre was better than the Droid. I posted the video below.

My parents have the droid, and I've messed with it a couple of times, though their "touch sensitive buttons" suck.

I had both a Droid and an Eris. I actually find my Eris to be faster, as I felt the Droid was laggy, and once I got used to the Eris keyboard it blew the Droid's out of the water.

Eris = Sense UI
Droid = Stock Android

Those are honestly the only reason I picked the Eris....Also the fact that I knew the Eris would be getting updated too. My mom has the Moto Droid and I think it's way to big, plus when you go from Sense to stock Android, it's just ugly as hell.

I completely understand what the OP is referring to. I bought an Eris on day one, because it was a way better looking phone, and the sense UI was great. After owning it for awhile, I sold it, because it was just too slow for me. I've sense messed with Moto Droids, and they are way faster, and that screen is beautiful. That being said, I don't want that junky excuse for a keyboard, and it is a bit of a clunky thing, not to mention the lack of sense UI makes it a rather bland experience. So....Incredible or maybe Nexus here I come. Super fast processor with great looks combined....finally! Oh and Audis are sweet! I was born in Germany and grew up there, so they are in my blood...

We have both. My wifes work paid for her to get a new phone, she got the droid, I got the free eris. that thing is huge and heavy... If it didn't have the keyboard I'd want one. But i really like my eris now. But I only like the droids bigger screen. The slider feels like with time it will break. Track ball is better than what ever that thing is on the droid. Etc etc etc

I agree. I spent quite some time with both phones in the Verizon store (along with the Tour and others). I loved the size of the Droid's display, but that was about it; I could not believe something like that was so expensive yet so toy-like in construction.

The Eris was a joy after a while of learning how to get the most out of it. It was no contest compared to the Droid.

Yeah, I've played with both the Motodroid and the Nexus. The Nexus trumps them all. It's an amazing phone. Blazing fast and feels great in your hand. I still like my Eris though.

Had the Moto Droid for two weeks. I loved the speed and display, but that's about all. The power/sleep button is in an awkward location to press. For a button used so much, it's really inconvenient. Lack of physical buttons also made it frustrating at times. Keyboard is not user friendly, and the thing is so bulky. Terrible if you're putting it in a pocket.

Finally, it is a Motorola. Never had luck with those phones. The Droid was no different. It would randomly reboot on it's own until one day it wouldn't turn on at all. That's when it went back to Verizon.

I had a very similar experience. I had the Droid for 29 days. Loved the speed and screen but the phone was clunky and awkward, the keyboard was marginal, and when I turned it off (which I had to do occasionally) it would take 4-5 minutes before it would boot up to let me make a call. The Eris is a bit laggy (moreso at some times than others) but I love the form factor and the physical send/end buttons and the trackball. I love Sense UI. I am happy enough for now. We'll see long-term...
