Help Droid RAZR XT910 battery drainage

Hi guys, i'm new here. Signed up specifically for this issue. Just can't bear keeping quiet and not anyone to talk about it to anymore. So i've been using the Droid Razr XT910 for about 3 weeks now and I love everything about it except for only one thing: The Battery Life . I tried everything from a hard reset to a cache clearing but nothing seems to stop the battery from draining. Currently my battery's at 60%. It went down from 90% in 3 hours just by me browsing through the forum looking for solutions. Anymore recommendation guys? Haven't done the factory reset though, might as well give it a try soon. I turned everything off (Wifi and GPS) and my brightnes level is around 30% but yet during idle it still munches up to 7% an hour without me doing anything. I'm afraid to go anywhere without a plug point nowadays, which is sad..

Hi azlan, first of all, welcome to the forums.
I own an xt910 and I kinda have the same issue too and well for u it is good i would say...my battery drains at around 15% an hour.
very pissing especially when I travel long distances.
i do this to extend the battery.
auto Brightness - off (brightness at around 20-30%)
Developer options

  • don't keep activities
  • background process limit - at most one process
and then i switch off sync and background data.
if you do this the battery will drain at 1% an hour but the very purpose of a smartphone will be lost.
I do this when I am traveling and I wanna listen to music all the while.
and oh ! try going to airplane mode... the battery will drain even lesser than that.. i started at around 8 am from a place and was to reach the dest at 6pm...i heard music almost all the way and the battery was still at around 60% or something
but again the basic purpose of the phone will be lost

Hi Narayanan, I searched around and found out that apparently this is an ICS bug or something? Nevertheless, its very annoying..i tried to set the processes to one but if i turn on the "don't keep activities" option, my apps take a while to load..which is as equally as annoying..

Apparently my screen is the biggest contributor in this battery drainage? Contributing to at least 70% of the consumption. How can this be when most of the time my phone is on idle? Hope we'll get a solution soon

Getting just about one day out of normal use is par for the course on a lot of mobiles except the Motorola Razr Maxx which I can get up to 4 days on one charge on low use and never less than 2 days.

Getting one day on a full charge is one thing. Getting 10hrs from a full charge with careful use, background sync off, 30% brightness, no major apps running, and wifi off is a whole different story i daresay.

I had the white RAZR. It would die on average of 5 hours. I mean shut off won't turn back on dead. I got it replaced. Same thing. Replaced again. No change. I now own the MAXX which takes a lot to kill. I am ditching Moto as soon as I can. And not cause I dislike Moto. It is just that Moto is all I have ever used. DX, DX2, D3, RAZR, RAZR MAXX. I do not like crApple products so that isn't an option. I love the Samsung GSIII and the Note 2. I can't wait to get into one of those.

Question. I use the power control widget to control the sync but you mentioned turning off background data, how do you do that and what does that effect?
Thanks

well go to the settings and then data usage...press the left most button in the soft keys that gives u the option...the second option will be to disable background data...
you wll get a notification saying that some apps wont work blah blah...
just click yes..
well as far as i have noticed, I sensed that the battery draining was considerably less when the bg data is disabled...if you are in a place where u r not using data in your phone, u might as well turn it off...:)
