Since there is many ppl on this forum that aren't registered and won't even register to say thank you to a dev or anyone addressing an issue you may have as well. They should make this forum available ONLY to REGISTERED members , many of you just follow directions ,download, and go. Shame to you, you know who you are @ least register and click the Thanks button in appreciation for there hard work and making our phones better ...

Uff i wanted to get this out of me ...lol

Alot of the other Android and tech forums have some sort of spam to either get you to register or go away. graying the screen out and a pop up with "HEY SIGN UP NOW!" and other techniques to sway you to registering. they do have the whole thing about having to post in the new members section that might be scaring them away. but that was so difficult lol. "Hi." "Ohai, welcome to the forums." done. lol ...meanwhile, coffee!!!!!

Easy! They can just make the files available to download ONLY for registered members like other forums making you sign up or you don't get the file, simple !. Will be nice an automatic Thanks to the person who posted the file after you click on it ... i think I'm asking for too much ...lmao

First thing, I moved this thread to the suggestion box and feedback forum. It's a much more appropriate venue for this type of discussion.

I understand your position and while I do agree it would be nice for everyone who takes advantage of the Android forums to show a little appreciation, it's really not the kind of thing we want to force. One sincere "thank you" is worth a hundred mandatory ones.

As for making people register to download a file, view a link or have access to various content, I am against it. I'd rather see people become members here to join a community and feel welcome than to simply sign up because they have to. Frankly, as the oldest and largest Android support forum with 1,134,280 registered members (as of 9:15 a.m. EDT) i think we don't need to "pad the rolls", we seem to be doing something right. :)

I hope my comment didn't come down as an edict from on high. I was only expressing my personal opinion. I'd love to hear differing positions from anyone including other staff.

No no worries, it's all cool i know you guys are always open for opinions and that was mine ...

Worcester, huh amilcar? Not far from me.:)

I agree with Luna that we shouldn't put barriers up to the great answers provided here. Almost anytime I search google for info about Android, this site is usually very well represented in the results on the first page.

I was a registered lurker here until earlier this year. The appeal of AF is the way members are treated no matter their role, rank, status, location, or newness. The friendliness shown here from all levels of members is fantastic. That is ultimately why I felt comfortable enough to actually ask questions here. Why hide that from non members?

I'm not talking about making unavailable all contents but links to download roms ,apps, ect (not information!) You still can't ask , comment ,quote or thanks anybody unless you register , i had too! As well as everyone commenting and quoting on this thread . Unless that had change recently ...lol

I hear you. :)

All I can offer is that we're glad that you joined and we hope that lurkers will become members when they're ready.

Some folks are just shy and a lot of forums just aren't as newcomer-friendly as we are. Truth is we were all new to this at some point. ;) :)

Rather than encouraging freeloading, hopefully our policies say - which community would you like to hang out in? The one that makes you join or the one that makes it your choice?

I do think that I may speak for staff by thanking you for looking out for us and most especially - thank you for speaking up! :)

A great number of our policies and features come from member feedback and we sincerely welcome it. :)

I have an account on here, at androidcentral, and xda.
Out of the 3 sites, I use AF the most. Why????

1. Because on xda I am limited to where I can post thanks to a 10 post limit rule. On xda they don't have a forum dedicated to my specific phones (they have the optimus v on there but mixed in with a GSM phone similar to it...). And a lot of users are not friendly to newbs who have potential to become an amazing dev.

2. The only forums I post on for android central are for the phones I own. Why? It's hard to navigate the actual website due to the theme they use. Most of the dev work for the optimus s and v (phones I own) are on AC. And a lot of metropcs phones are not on AC.

3. This site has the most in site friendliness. This site also allows you to see links without being registered. When I first saw AC I had to register to see links and I was hesitant to because I thought they wanted my email address for sending me spam...eventually I gave a fake email account, I know we don't want people doing that here....
one day a member forgets password and originally registered with a fake email address, so he creates another account because he can't change his password. Then he would get banned.

I am against the "register to view links". I know a few who liked the lock at first, but then later realized that it's not that great.

I believe this forum is the most noob friendly site.

Throw my 2 cents in on this. To go off what unforgiven said....

I first found the forums through searching for info on the transform ultra when I first got it. As a result I came here as a guest, got my answer and was on my way. Well the next 3 times I needed answers what was high up on Google and the only place to have my answer? that would be phandroid and these wonderful android forums. As a result I finally registered of my own free will. Had I been forced to register to view or download I would have probably left and not come back. While there are probably a few who wont ever register, say thank you or help others out, the ones who do make the community what it is. ok now i am rambling......out

I'm 50 / 50 on this.

Rastaman-FB kindly donates ftp resources to my thread giving the HTC desire AF community a one stop shop for root related downloads.

This was very well received. So well received, we had far more downloads than there were members. Consequently, this paid ftp site's bandwidth was exceeded and the AF community it served couldn't actually download the things they needed.

Given that the site was donated for this reason, its a shame and in this case, that would have helped.

Instead we had to password protect it and hide the password within the thread, spending ridiculous amounts of time hinting to people where it was.

Although blocking all content would be annoying, there could do with a compromise bring reached IMHO

As i said in an earlier post . to ask, comment, quote or thanks anyone you still have to register... why not take that away making the site 100% registration free? That's exactly what is keeping some lurkers out there from commenting, quoting ,asking and specialty appreciating (thank) anybody . The site should auto assing a guest acc (w/o having to register) so you can be able to do the above ...many just don't thank or due anything of the above for that reason, cuz they have to register and they are maybe scared to do so just like i was before becoming a registered member ...

Last comment on my side. I'm not stretching the rope anymore on this thread ...

I would never allow non registers to post, IMHO that would have a lot of problems.
Problem 1: other people act as if they are someone else.
Problem 2: some registered people would stop logging in to post
Problem 3: most non registered people don't know how a forum works and would have a difficult time getting to where they posted, if they are registered they can search through their own posts in profile statistics.
Problem 4: a lot of spam would come. even if you try to block with captcha, there are people that could spam and would be hard to ban...

Here we go just the answer i was looking for ...now it makes sence

What's the big deal about the thanks? I mean, it's nice to get them, and I've given and received a couple, but they don't really do anything. I don't like when forums make you sign up to see the links, and AF is doing great without forcing people to join, so I'd vote for not fixing what ain't broke.

Why are you one of those don't like anyone looking out for someone or somebody?
There is not big deal @least on my side. It was my opinion that's it ... don't know about your side
you really don't know why i make this thread and where, this thread wasn't meant to be on this place but thx to luna that brought it to the right place

Thank you all for your comments... btw this thread can be removed anytime ...

Sorry if you took it the wrong way, I wasn't trying to be offensive. If you look at my profile you can see that I've given many more "thanks" than I've received. As I said, they are nice to get, but I don't see the point of making somebody register so they can click the thanks button. Not putting down your idea, just putting my two cents in. AF is (mostly) a flame-free zone, that's what's so cool about it, so sorry again if I sounded like a smart ass.
