Root Not able to Restore

I go back and forth between the Sharp ROM, MTDEV-CM7 and MTDEV-CM9. If I backup all three and am using CM9 for example, when I try to restore Sharp, I get the following lines:

data.img not found. skipping restore of /data
.android_secure.img not found. skipping restore of /sdcard/.android_secure

Restore complete!

But nothing has been restored.

I also tried restoring with CWM5.5.04 with same result.

I then tried backing up with 5.5.0.4 and it went through all the backup steps, but left no file. Any suggestions or is restoring between Sharp and CM9 not doable?

Something is corrupting it because they once restored.

Memory cards tend to do this. You can try and backup your SD Card on your PC and then format the card, and copy back the data.

Same thing I was gonna suggest, it strange but after so long of running a rom or if ur flashing a lot of different roms the SD card seems to go wonky, I've had it happen maybe 3 times, I usually blame the sd cause ive never had rom issues, i just pop the SD into my PC and slow format it to fat32 and I'm good to go

Like g60 said, it could be the memory card. It could also be that when you did the backup, it didn't backup anything. Just the empty folder. It happened to me a few times before. I always double check after backing up to see if my backup folder has reasonable size to it. Roughly around 200 MB I believe. For some reason, sometimes, CWM doesn't backup things.

Well I've never had a backup issue, I was just saying ive had my SD go wonky, I've also helped more then one user troubleshoot music issues that all lead back to the SD as well

I've had the same thing happen to me. I would run the backup and it would take like 5 seconds, then reboot. It would happen if I clear cache first. I don't know why, I used to be able to clear the cache. Anyway, me too.

Thanks guys! There was something bonkerz with the SD card as it was giving me backup dates in January. I took your suggestion and reformatted the SD card and it now gives the correct backup dates.

After getting my Sharp ROM back in the desired format though I am hesitant to go back to CM-9 until the camera issue is resolved. It is not the photos I need, but the scanning of barcodes for price comparison.

Hi guys, I am not amazing at manipulating a rooted phone yet but after 2 years of having a rooted phone i decided to go one step further and start flashing roms. I started off by downloading rom manager and creating a backup from there. I tried flashing something that would make it so my phone would have super mario flying through instead of the conventional samsung logo when my phone started. After the process the only thing that changed was that the phone would not show the samsung logo any more (ut i could hear the sound). So I decided since I screwed up to just recover my phone. So I went in my clockworkmod app and asked it to recover. After then entire recovery process my phone just satys stuck on the samsung logo, not the first logo but the one with the colors shooting out. The reason why im posting here is because when I attempted to recover again i noticed the message .android_secure.img not found. skipping restore of /sdcard/.android_secure . So now all I want is my phone to turn back on, and I have no idea what to do next? Can anyone point me in the right direction, and if I do have to bring it back to the store , how do I remove clockworkmod before going so that they don't know i rooted my phone?

There is a difference between changing the "splash screen" which is the phone makers logo, and the boot animation. Your Sammy may not like it's splash logo tampered with. Some are an embedded part of the boot.img file. If you mess with it incorrectly, your phone won't boot up at all. The boot animation is easier. Do some research on the difference. To get your phone working, you may have to do what I call...a "hard restore" or restoring it by reflash. If the phone is rooted, reflash the rom you're using. (If a dirty flash doesn't work, then clean flash it and start from scratch.) Make sure your rom is pre-rooted and for the version of "stock firmware" you're on, so you don't loose the use of your recovery or brick your phone. A dirty flash should reestablish that android secure folder on your sd card, and you'll have your phone working. If that doesn't work use a clean flash..
To dirty flash, just install the rom.zip without wiping anything. Then reboot. If it worked, you should have all your apps.
To clean flash..wipe dalvik & cache, and system if your rom dev recommends as a step of a "first install", then flash. Once your rom flashes & boots, skip the Google account stuff and go to Settings. Your phone may need to be "re-activated", if so, use the Activate Phone tool, then reboot. After reboot, go back to Settings, skipping Google account stuff again. Go to System Updates , update PRL & Profile, then reboot. After that reboot, register your Google Account. Now your phone works and your sd card will have a file..android secure on it. Now to can try using your backup. It may restore your stuff, or not. At least a reflash will give you a working phone. This doesn't work for all phones. It worked on my LG F3, but not my Tribute. May not work for the Sammy series.
That android_secure folder may not have been saved in your backup. You may have a check box appearing
in recovery, next to it that needs to be chosen for it to be backed up.
As a general rule of thumb..
I make a copy (with Titanium Backups of all my downloaded apps) of my sd card to keep on my pc, before I flash a rom. That way those aren't affected by any flash issues...just in case!
