So I got my htc one x, brand new, a few weeks ago. Lately it's been rebooting by itself, but now it's non stop!

When I manually power it off, it will stay off, but when I try to turn it on again it makes it to the home screen but I can't unlock it, then it will keep going through the power up screens (like att, htc quietly brilliant etc.) Eventually it will freeze on a screen and turn off and the whole process repeats again.

If you could please help me it would be greatly appreciated! I have no idea what to do!

Thank you

I would reboot to boot loader and do a factory reset.

Should be a manual button combo such as power+volume down to get to boot loader

Good idea. You can power off your device by holding the power button down for about 10 seconds. Then hold volume down + power to get into your bootloader. Once in there you can try a factory reset. You can navigate that menu with the volume up and down buttons and select options with the power button

sorry for all the questions but will a factory reset delete everything on my phone like contacts, apps, and music?

As factory reset wipes basically data. It's a little bit different than a computer because you don't have to re install the operating system. Basically you will lose your apps and app data. You can back your contacts up to the sd card. A factory reset will not wipe your external storage. Although I don't think it's removable on your device, it still shouldn't wipe your sd card. You can reinstall all apps from the Google play store. And restore contacts if you export them to sd. You can also download an app like my backup pro to backup your home screens and stuff and contacts. Basically my backup will backup most everything on your phone except app data. When you restore the apps it will be like you installed them for the first time. Pictures and music should be on external storage I assume but my backup will back them up too

Edit to add: obviously if you can't boot up you won't be able to backup anything. But anything on your sd card such as music and pictures should be safe through your factory reset

if rooting isn't beyond your realm i would suggest that and a custom ROM. i flashed three before i landed on one that stopped my phone's rebooting itself. either hardware is the issue or bad stock software. i would also recommend downloading 'Airpush Detector' from the Play Store--some phones come with ad bots out of box, and these can cause system instability.

would also help to know what version of Android you are running. i am not familiar with every device and what versions they run, but i do know if you go into Settings-->About phone you may be running an old version of Android, like 2.1 'Eclair' or worse, 1.x 'Cupcake.' in my experience, Android didn't get very stable until after 2.3 Gingerbread and up.

Nick, it's a One X, so is going to be running ICS.

I'd not suggest root at this point because it may need a hardware repair and hence you don't want any questions about the warranty. My feeling is try a factory reset, and if that doesn't work the options are either reflash with an official RUU or take it for repair. If the RUU doesn't do it then that really only leaves repair.

i'm glad someone is versed on the different devices :)

I've got a refurb HTC One X stock phone, and in day two of having the phone in operation it started rebooting itself and it has moments where it shows its charging and nothing is operational. It keeps rebooting, I've done factory resets at least 10 times, it hasn't been rooted, shows **TAMPERED** and **LOCKED** and I haven't done anything to it but restore it. In two of my resets, it wiped all of my phone storage data. I've only had the phone a little over a week and I'm absolutely frustrated as I LIKE this phone and its functionality, but it won't function for more than a few minutes without having a conniption fit during use of ANY app in "factory default mode" and rebooting, hanging up in reboot process over and over again, and taking forever to actually power up again. I tried the RUU installer, but had to connect it with HTC Sync to get it to recognize, then it told me I had less than 30% battery and its fully charged. ANY help to prevent having to deal with an outsourced AT&T representatives is GREATLY appreciated!!
