I see. I'm not experienced with ROM Manager but I thought it promises a variety of functions, not just downloading and installing ROMs, and I was hoping to use some of the other functions.

you can download install roms, or make nandroids with custom names

this is the driver needed for adb/sdk to recognize your phone. download the appropriate one.

this is where to find sdk which includes adb for android. follow the guide on that site, and questions, feel free to reply back into here.

Hey shabby, to you have your sources posted to github for the cwm and our device tree. I'm going to work on ironing out done cwm issues I've noticed.

And now that we have a stock system dump I'm going to try to make a stock rom if I can find the free time!

okay i have just bought this phone for my girlfriend. have it rooted, but then wanted to get cmw on it. Is there anyother way to get cmw on beside abd? i know nothing of this program. the flash image gui says the venture isnt compatable? Any help here?

yea, but it would have to be with the terminal emulator. beyond knowing that, i dont know anything. adb is far easier, and really is a good tool for android phones.

In the first post at the top of this thread you'll find the link for flash_image (not flash image gui). You'll need that, the image, and a terminal emulator.

You'll also need to know where you have flash_image and the image. Then, at the terminal:

su
chmod 755 /data/local/tmp/flash_image
/data/local/tmp/flash_image recovery /data/local/tmp/recovery.img

This assumes that you've placed flash_image and the image in /data/local/tmp.

i was able to flash cwm on my venture via fastboot after i had already got it stuck in a bootloop. just waitin on that stock rom to get back up and goin!

im getting error opening /data/local/tmp/recovery.imgfailed with error -1 any clues what to do?

Edit1: I think i figured out my error here. the recover .img is named CMW-recovery. so ill try that. something simple, but will make all the difference. sorry people for being new to doing this stuff

which program was used to do this? the venture wasn't on the recovery list and it says not to use ROM manager. what about ROM toolbox or system ROM toolbox?

I know how to read the code and I found the emulator in ROM toolbox app. It is like dos mode on the computer but what/where is chmod or is that being created i saw that in the root browser while i was poking around. this is a new language after all. lol i am reminded of learning Spanish, Portuguese, and French at the same time.

on ur computer, download android sdk. rom manager doesnt work for the venture as of yet. android sdk is a tool used mainly for communicating between the phone and your pc. sdk contains adb and fastboot, both of which can be used to flash a custom recovery. if i remember right, chmod is a command used to change permissions.

adb isn't installing on my computer. the dialog to install the PHONEs software isn't coming up. i know that it is reading the phone but when i connected it the first time i think i toggled don't now ask to install again since the software wasn't found. I cna't remember if a simple reboot will allow me to see that dialog again.

The link above is to a program called PDAnet. Download it and install it to your windows pc. PDAnet is a program that is designed to allow you to tether your internet to your computer from your phone, but it is an easy way to install the drivers you need for ADB, as they are included in the install. if an adb driver is already on your computer, it might prompt u that there is already an existing driver. if that happens, just choose the option to reinstall the driver anyway.

Above is the link to Android SDK, just in case u dont have it installed yet. This will include the programs that you need including adb and fastboot.

chmod is equivalent to the Windows command cacls (and kinda similar to the much less powerful DOS command attrib). It gets installed when you install busybox, which is the first thing that's recommended to install after rooting (in every howto/auto-rooting program I've seen).

You need to go into device manager, find your phone (should show up as an error), and delete it. Then install PDANet (linked in Dracable's post), which is the only known way to get drivers that work for this phone. Turn on USB debugging in your phone before you do that, and don't mount the phone's USB Mass Storage MicroSD card on the computer.

downloaded all that i had sdk already i was working on an app. none of it worked. not even the alternatives i found. i can't get the prompt to stay open. i am running xp not windows 7 or vista.

oh i had usb storage on. Ok can you give me a step by step after i turn on my phone and reboot my computer. I think i have something out of order. i am not finding my phone in the device manager.
