OTA ICS Issues on Bionic

Do you recommend us, that want to do the FDR route along side the update, to do the FDR before or after applying the update? Been a while since I did the .905 update on my phone so my memory is vague on how the update is applied OTA.

FIRST, I backed up all my data. With screen shots of how I want my homescreens to look.

AFTER getting the update, I did a factory data reset and it's great! You can lose data stored on your internal card on a FDR.

Ahhh... it's the Rezound all over again!

The answer to 98% of all your problems will be a Factory Reset, even if you don't have any problems, you should do a factory reset after receiving the update via OTA, because other things could be going in the background you don't see immediately and might just "blame it on ICS" when it is something else with an app, this was common on the Rezound showing battery drain, heat build up, poor connection, proximity sensor issues, and other stuff, and a factory reset fixed them all.

It sucks, but it is the best practice anytime a major change to the OS occurs.

And one word of advice, do not restore apps from a backup of GB into ICS, and definitely do not restore apps+data and/or settings, it will just put bad data back into your nice clean ICS firmware! It's a real pain, but reinstall and run once every app manually.

Just some works of advice from someone who has gone through this recently, take it or leave it, just trying to help.

(Lurking in thread because my son has a Bionic and is impatiently awaiting the OTA update!)

I received the update notification on Friday October 19th. Unfortunately, after two attempts at applying the update on my rooted phone, I found that I could not apply the update:thinking:. I decided that I would apply a .905 FXZ to return to stock, :eek:I thought maybe root was keeping me from successfully updating. Sadly, after booting back into stock, I was could no longer find the ICS update, even through the manual update check:(.

It seems a bit strange to me that no one has yet posted the official .406 OTA for manual update. From what I understand, one has to simply copy the update file from the \cache folder prior to applying the OTA update. Hope someone with a bit of insight can manage this for some of us sooner than later.

I did the manual system update check and it popped up as there being an update ready for download. I am not going to install it until I get home from work but I would like to help the community out for those still waiting. Can someone link me to the page with the steps to pull the update off my phone for other people to use the file to update their phone too?

I too have been having trouble applying the update. I have successfully downloaded the 368MB file several times (unlimited data - what do I care) and I even copied the file to the SD card, but how do I get the system to attempt to apply it? I have tried to simply reboot but that doesn't work. I am traveling out of the country now and don't have a PC to use adb.

I do not like the dock software in ICS! Wow, what a difference! Is there a good alternative dock software anyone is aware of? I used to like the productivity screen with the calendar feature and side options... Unrooted, ota ICS...
This is part of the Moto Blur launcher... you will need to try a different launcher, GO Launcher, Nova, Apex, Holo, or any other number of launchers are available in the Play Store.

Oh, and Factory Reset... (I will say this a lot in this thread!)

I like Amazon MP3 because it can group by tracks with each album.

... Thom

Thanks - I liked that one too, but I have pre made playlists in the Boinic's music player (Driving music, etc) and I wanted to be able to access those... Couldn't seem to access the phone's playlists through the Amazon one. Might be a good stopgap though.

OK. I have an actual issue after the ICS OTA. (No... Not headphones whining. That's not my problem. lol)

Charging. I have been using a non motorola USB charger (Easy... it always worked before lol) and I have been unable to charge past 20% after I was fully ICS'd.

When I get home, I will try the actual Moto charger and cable (USB as well as wall outlet), and also try wall a non Moto wall outlet and see if that makes any difference.

I'll let you know what I find out.

Yes. Discussed here in other threads. One person reported it went away after a Factory Data Reset.

Not going to go through another FDR. I hope they release a fix for it. Even though the music quality is crap on this phone, I still use it frequently. I don't want to have to pay $100 for an iPod, and carry it around w/my phone.

:(

I had that problem on the 232 leak. Try turning off your phone and charging it.
