Help anyone having charging issues?

Make sure you do an FDR after going to .246. I saw a note on the Motorola forums about it. Someone else had the same issue and the FDR fixed it.

I couldn't get past about 20% the day I upgraded to ICS. (Of course that's a long and boring story, ... downloading it 3x, trying to install 3x, etc... lol)

By the time I was done, my battery was hurting. And I have the moto extended battery too. And then, after running a marathon of downloads and installs, I played with ICS constantly. the USB charger I was using (non moto brand) just couldn't keep up.

It wasn't till I got home, and put it on the wall Moto charger, and left it alone overnight that I FINALLY got back to a 100 charge. That was Tuesday, and I have had ZERO problems since then.

Yes Both official. If i take it in will they replace it with another droid? Or even replace it at all?

Try charging with the power off for an hour. Leave it charging and power up the phone. See if that helps.

Will do! In the meantime i hear alot of you talking about dont bring gb stuff over to ics

when i back up how do i prevent stuff i may have brought over to ics? I did a backup of apps and app data. then i restored it?

My wife's Bionic with extended battery did the same last night. Got to 30%
and then hung. Did a battery pull and back on the official charger and was at
100% this morning when we got up.

I'm using an older Samsung charger, but this setup worked great under GB.

I wonder if the Bionic under ICS just needs more power now?

Did you do a Factory Data Reset after installing ICS? IT is recommended.

Try running with the charger and cable that came with your Bionic.

That's something I'm going to have to check at home where my stock charger is.
In this situation I'm using my bionic at work, but this setup has been working with no problems right up until the OTA came down the line.

When I updated I made sure to do an FDR as soon add the process was complete.

It's not just under ICS. There have ALWAYS been occasional issues when using chargers not really designed for the phone.

Really need to use the chargers that came with and/or designed to work with the Bionic.

With respect I would offer a counter point:

Any USB charger that matches the proper current specification should be sufficient really.

There's no voodoo in these USB chargers nowadays, just specs relating to how much current they deliver.
If you have an available charger that meets the spec, by all means use it!
Adhering strictly to a brand standard creates the potential for more needless e-waste IMO.

For instance, the Samsung charger I was using at work for nearly the last year can only output 700ma, as opposed to the Motorola charger which delivers 850ma. I used a 2.0 amp charger as well with success.

Ultimately, the issue I was having was with the charger I was using at work, but only in that it didn't meet the same current spec as the Motorola, not that it was a different brand.

It would seem that under GB a weaker charger would suffice, but under ICS a charger with a MINIMUM of 850ma output is required to support charging the battery while the Bionic is also engaging in more active processes.

Now that I'm aware I'll simply use a different charger that delivers at least 850ma.

I guess it stands to reason that the power usage of the phone is going to be altered by the OS having more access to the dual-core hardware.

Wimpy chargers just won't cut it anymore!

As I plow through my collection of USB chargers it would seem that most of them are pretty standard, which is to say 500ma. So check those tiny labels!

I also haven't noticed any difference in different brands of micro USB cables, aside from the usual concerns with crappy quality ones.

This was a good post. It's a lot easier to tell somebody to use the stock charger and cable (cables do go bad; I've had a few that would charge, then stopped) than to specify minimum charging requirements. I will say that with my iPad 10W charger and my Amazon Kindle USB cable, my phone charges a-ok. It's a lot easier to travel with one or two chargers than a handful of them, that's for sure.
