I got my Sprint Note 2!!! How about you.

Does you Defy have ICS or still on GB? If not ICS, it could be simply OS reading signal strength differently. ICS and JB are reading RSRP vs Froyo, GB reading RSSI (which is usually stronger number).

In case of CDMA/LTE phones, GB phones can show about 20dbm better strength than ICS phone for the equivalent signal. Not sure about GSM/HSPA+ phones though.

Fair enough, and I've heard about ICS "reporting differently" however calls/data still start to fail in the -103 to -105dBm area. The Defy is still on 2.2.

The S3 does not have that problem

See the s4gru article on the Note 2 and SVDO. (Very informative and also read the comments)

Just want to clear. So this whole can't talk & surf the web topic at the same time is on all Note 2's ( no matter what carrier you are on ) or it just effects Sprint customers.

I just got off the phone with AT&T retention to try my luck on getting the Note 2 for a cheaper price. I just moved to a new city and the data here is pretty crappy, but I would prefer to stick with AT&T since the other providers here only have slow 3G as well. I'll give a quick run down to make myself feel good about all of this.

A few months ago they waived my unlimited text/mobile to mobile for six months because I stated I was thinking of getting Straight Talk.
A few days ago I got a $60 credit for my last two months of data that have been extremely slow since moving here.
I just got off the phone with a guy in retention and he stated he will get me the Note 2 for $174.99 and credit my account for $50 for the hassle I have been going through. I will still have to pay the $36 upgrade fee, but that can come out of that $50. Only caveat is that he doesn't know if he can pre-order through his department and will look into it. Otherwise he is calling me on November 9th to place the order for me at that price.

I'm quite happy with that price... :) I guess that's what happens when you have three lines on a family plan with none being in contract. I've been with them since 1999 and they don't want to lose my business. Ok I'm done rubbing it in...I will have mine soon, but maybe a few days later than everyone else due to me not being able to pre-order.

I've never owned a Samsung phone. Currently have the original HTC Evo. Can anybody going from a non-Samsung phone to the Note 2 tell a difference in reception, either bad or good?

I have heard bad things about Samsungs radios. Poor data and call reception. My data speeds are terrible enough on my Evo. Don't want to take a step backwards.

Maybe you got a bad one then? My friend's Note LTE on at&t seems to be getting killer reception. And this reviewer of Note 2 (at&t) seems to feel reception is excellent.

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2411288,00.asp

On my 2nd LTE Note, generating the same dBm numbers, in an area where I hit 54Mbps next to RFK stadium. This from a VoIP engineer, who saw improved reception with a home made antenna for the Droid (thread in the Droid forum on this site). Again FWIW, the Note's HSPA dBm values were consistently higher than its LTE numbers, but also 1 to 5 dBm less than the HTC One X in the same areas.

My buddy, on Sprint, said he got the Note 2 yesterday. He's always complained about reception, in the Baltimore area, and switched from the latest Evo. He mentioned today that the reception seemed bad/worse, but we didn't get into details.

For a real world comparison, vs my less expensive Moto Defy, I was always 10-15dBm higher than the Note. In the elevator at work, I can maintain a 3G signal, although very weak. The Note 2 will drop to Edge, or completely lose connection...same in the parking garage.

Just as I suspected. I want the Note 2 and the wife wants the GS III. Our contract is up, so looks like I'm jumping to Verizon when the Note comes out. I'm tired of the slow data speeds, and there is no word on when Detroit/Toledo area will be upgraded. Too bad, really. I've been with them since '98.

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner, but I was fighting to get my Note today

anyway, yeah that only is with the Sprint model that I know of. It might happen with Verizon but I would have to look through their FCC docs.

Edit: The FCC docs for Verizon show it does.

Ok, my saga of trying to get the Note went into overdrive today. Man what a day.

Anyway, the plan was this. My better half has a friend that owes him a favor who worked for Sprint. Although he doesn't work for Sprint anymore he still has connections with those that do, So I was waiting for him to get back to us and let us know when we can go the store and buy the phones. Mind you my phone has the premier discount, the other does not. And he was going to get the upgrade reduce from $175 down to $50. But the guy gets into an accident and is in the hospital now. he's doing okay but I did not want to bother him and sound insensitive. So I decide to go the usual route.

I call a few stores and all of them have no Notes. :( I call a few more and finally get one. Explained that I will be buying three of them and if I can hold them until I get there. She says yes and takes my name.

I rush and get to the Sprint store, say my name and ta daa the rep whips out three unopened Notes. Askes me for my phone number and pin and attempts to go into my account. A concerned look comes across the reps face and I start sweating.

He says I can't get into your account. Tries another terminal, same thing. Tells me you are a SERO Business Account and I do not have the authorization to get into it. Explains that the store is not a corporate one and only corporate ones can get into such accounts. aarrgghhh :(

So he gives me all the corporate stores numbers and I start calling, none have it. So I cross the street to the Corp store and ask if they can get into my account. they do. I ask can the 3 devices in the other store be transferred over here. No that can't be done. aarrgghhh

So i gave up and ordered them there. had to pay the $125 ETF/Upgrade fee but eh screw it. i want this phone. So total for 2 Notes with taxes etf etc $811.98 Takes 3-5 business days (but she claims it usually get to them in 3). but with this Sandy hurricane coming to town, it might get to me the day before I head out to my month long trip.

So once they call me to pick it up I'll cancel the AT&T Note and put it and the two photons as buy back.

So bottom line i was this >< close to holding my Notes but I guess I have to wait just a little bit more.

thanks,
yeah i was suppose to go to Philly tomorrow to take the nieces to a nail show/seminar type of thing and the more I thought about it the more I said we are going to be caught in this thing, so we cancelled for a later date.

After the movies in the morning i am going to do hurricane shopping and be ready. They say its going to be a duzzy of a storm.

Oh my what a dramatic read, to be so close and then find out there's no instant gratification. Keep your head up those days will go by swiftly..... (are you buying that). Man I would have been cursing up a storm!!!

I'll probably get demotted as a Sprint Advocate over in the Sprint Community Forums after the constant rant thread I did over there about my ordeal yesterday. maybe thats the reason why I haven't slept. insomnia is a bitch.

Anyway, found out that the Sprint version also doesn't have the wireless charging pins like the International version.

Given the status of the advocates I doubt you will be kicked out of the "group"

Unless you are a advocate you can't see it
Correct, its like our Mod section, regular members can't see thread in it. Whats said there stays there. :p

yeah I know, can't get kicked out of a group that doesn't exist. lol shame but eh they still keep the section open for discussions among advocates.
