Verizon Note 2 Pre-order, Release date, and speculation thread

I like thin but protective cases for my phones. For my Droid X I had the holster/shell combo and only used the shell. The second link I like, but it seems like it could be thick around the edges and back. The third link looks like it has a lip around the top which would at least hold it off the ground a little bit god forbid it gets dropped

@ScandaLeX Is your flip cover for an S3 or do you have a Note II?

~C

Note II and I love it! This is the 1st phone I may actually keep using the duration of my contract. Usually get bored with them in about 6 mos.

How do those attach to the phone? It looks like they aren't a sticker but a little piece of plastic or aluminum. I could see that getting in the way.

As for me, I don't care about the verizon logo on the front or the back, I would get a third party battery cover but I don't want to lose NFC. For cases, I'll probably get either the samsung flip case, this or this

@ScandaLeX Thanks!

Don't worry about losing NFC by switching the back cover on a VZW Note 2. It appears to be built into the battery - Galaxy Note

Yup, that is shown in many videos, but none of them are a VZW version as no one has that in hand yet.

I'm just going off of Samsung's own website which state that the VZW & US Cellular versions have a different battery.

Ya, maybe they did it for wireless charging... we'll see.

I saw that also. NFC is built into the battery for those 2 carriers only.

I'm one of those people someone alluded to above- one who is not carrier-loyal and will jump if presented the right deal. I've been with Verizon for five or six years now, but I'm growing increasingly wary of their antics but, more importantly, the amount I pay each month for service. I've been telling myself I can't get rid of unlimited data, so I had come to terms with spending nearly $800 for the phone (I'm not upgrade-eligible, anyway).

For what, though? What says I'll get to keep unlimited data once my contract expires? I went to TMobile the other night and tested the Note II. While I was there, I tested the waters regarding ETF assistance and picked up some literature on month-to-month plans (something else I've been threatening to do for a while).

For my needs, HSPA+ is going to be a sufficient filler for LTE, especially considering the money I'll be putting back into my wallet. As an added benefit, the TMo Note II a) has a dormant LTE radio, making it a bit future-proof and b) should not chew the battery as quickly on HSPA+ as compared to LTE.

I'm damn close to making the jump. As I was telling the CS rep at Verizon today when asked why I was considering leaving, the delayed Note II release is the catalyst rather than the cause. I've been considering a PAYG type plan for a while now; it just took the right thing ticking me off to follow through.

So, for those of you still waiting on Red to finally let go of this thing, I feel your pain. I suffered through the Galaxy Nexus mess last year (and the trademark Verizon update drag-assedness over the last year) with many of you, I'm sure.

Hey this sounds VERY similar to my experience. I was going to go to verizon from AT&T and pre-ordered an iPhone 5 in store and a Note 2 online (why I was following this thread). I went in a t-mobile store on Thursday just to check out the Note 2. It is a sweet phone. Employees seemed bored to talk to me since I told them I was probably going to Verizon. I expected more of a push from them...

Anyways, I saw a brochure for small business plans and opened it. OMG- SWEET DEALS for small business. If you have a business set up with an EIN you can get a 1000 minute a month plan with 5G of 4G data for $40 a month! That rivals a lot of prepaid and is better than some. The kicker is that is a lot of data for that price and their HSPA+ network is actually pretty fast. More on that in a bit.

SO I asked a sales reps what the catch was on the prices. She told me that the prices don't include a subsidized device. BUT they will actually set you up on a payment plan for the device interest free, you just have to pay $250 up front plus the taxes for the whole device, SO I paid about $300 with tax for the note and I have a $20 a month payment plan for 20 months for the remaining cost of the note 2 ($650). I also got the tethering for $10 and insurance for $8. So basically I pay $78 a month and that includes tethering and device insurance and I get 5 GB a month high speed data and more minutes than I would need. ($10 a month more gets you unlimited talk also). Plus, since the phone is not subsidized, it will actually be paid off in 20 months not 24(contract length). A similar plan on verizon is $110 for unlimited talk and text and 4 GB data. That does not include device insurance. So you get 1 GB less data and unlimited minutes.

I did a speed test on the note 2 in store and it was in the mid teens (15 Mbps I think)

So I went ahead and signed up for t-mobile and got my note 2. I went into the verizon store yesterday and tested their speed vs t-mobile. T-mobile was faster down and a bit slower up but they were very similar.

T-mobile will also be rolling out LTE soon and note 2 supports it.

As for the iPhone, we are just going to put a sim card in my wife's iPhone 4 from t-mobile. They said their 3G network will be compatible by the end of November and also they are poised to get the iPhone 5 sometime soon according to the reps (but that of course is speculation). My wife will have unlimited talk and text and 5 GB data for $50 a month and bring her own device from AT&T once our contract is up next week.

So I just thought I'd share. We will be saving about $60 bucks a month over the same service with Verizon and that includes my Note 2 monthly payment.

My wife didn't care for the iPhone 5, she likes her iPhone 4 just fine, BUT we were getting her the iPhone 5 since we would be paying for it anyways with verizon's service prices plus her 4 is not compatible with CMDA. If/When she can get the iPhone 5 on t-mobile we will have to pay a few hundred up front and 20-30 a month more but we will still be paying less than on verizon by quite a bit and you have to pay a chunk up front with them too.

Sorry for the long post just thought I'd help some people that are getting fed up with waiting for the Note 2 on verizon and let them know there are other solutions, especially if you own a small business.

Must be nice everyone got to play with the Note 2 this weekend. I went to 2 different T-Mobile retailers, neither had the Note 2, fake or real. Also went to the Sprint store and AT&T store, none of them had a Note 2 either, fake or real.

Worthless stores around here.

Both my T-Mobile stores had one, both had live ones behind the counter because they didn't have the proper locking/security mechanism

Ordered. Although I'd like the phone now, I think it is going the route of the Moto Razr HD. They wait too long, other phones will be out and available.
The extra 30+ days wait gives me time to:
1) See the HTC DNA
2) See it a 32/64 gb version will be offered before release on the 29th.
16gb is pretty skimpy, but I have already received my 64gb memory card.
Now all I need is a wireless "car" charger for my window. I'm going to miss my Droid X window mount. It rocks.

If the HTC DNA is a good device and Sammy looses sales of the Note 2 to it because VZW waited 30 days longer than all other US providers, they will be a bit upset I'm sure.

What you see in that youtube video is NFC; not inductive charging. Verizon and US Cellulars NFC chip is in the battery.

That sucks. And this is why Samsung should push more for simultaneous releases. Their sales may suffer because of this. But the DNA DLX or whatever has a non-replaceable battery doesn't it? At least that's the bonus of the Note 2.

LONG wait for us VZW users.

Battery is non-replaceable, but that 1080p screen sounds amazing. Although its a half inch smaller. But it's supposed to be thinner and lighter than the Note 2. But has a smaller battery and HTC is notorious for having crappy batteries, at least on their Verizon phones. Sounds like there will be trade-offs with these phones.

Yes, about two years ago...my HTC smartphone, forgot which, came out the same time as my Droid X had crappy battery. It was fast though.
I don't think the Note 2 will be too big, but it is big. And although the screen is brighter than the S3, it still isn't really bright. I've preordered, but still have the option of canceling if the DNA is a good phone. I think 5" should be fine, especially since it is a "true" 5" screen. Not a 5" with .3 taken by soft keys like the Droid Razr HD. If the buttons take .3 of the screen, the really, 95% of the time, it's only a 4.7" screen (internet, games, apps, Google maps, etc).
I'm keeping my eye on the DNA since VZW has artificially delayed the Note 2. I just not sure I can deal with the non-replaceable battery. It needs to have like 8-9 hours of video and similar internet time. I"m not concerned with talk time really.

Honestly though, there is only 1-2 phones that have everything:
1) Big screen
2) SD slot
3) Removable battery
4) Hd screen
5) Quad core

Not that everyone has the same needs as I do, but those things make it worthy of keeping for a 2 year period.

Besides the S3 and Note 2, what phone meets all those standards?
Not the:
Razr HD
Nexus 4
LG
HTC DNA
nothing.

Well, I think I might know why Verizon is holding off on the Note II until late November..

weafH.png

I think they might wait until they get an sw update that allows the multi-window mode.

Then, they'll be the last carrier to get the GN2, but first to have multi-window capability in the US.

Good old Verizon, up to their old tricks :D

~C

So would that mean the rest of us wouldn't get the update until Nov?
