Will the Bionic's be able to handle Voice over LTE

I was reading an article about the new Nexus 4 and Google's decision not to include LTE support in it because of the need for 2 radios. The article went on to say that voice over LTE would be implemented sometime in 2013. If Verizon does implement voice over LTE, will the Bionics be able to do that, not using the CDMA band at all?

Doubt anyone here will be able to answer that. If it's as simply as telling the one radio to stay turned off, I don't see why not. If it's a more complicated process than that, I think the Bionic will be too old by "sometime in 2013" for anyone to bother trying to support it.

Yeah, if it's as simple as turning off the CDMA, then that means that the data issues we had been seeing it become moot since it seems that the data drop issues had to do with the wierd way Verizon is authenticating both CDMA and LTE at the same time.

Of course whatever patch they included in ICS seems to have fixed it, but then again, 893 fixed it as well and Verizon did something network side to cause it to show up again shortly before 905 went out which means Verizon could do something again.

I don't know if it's the same thing but I've successfully used skype and fring when I got low on my monthly allotment of minutes. There was no quality issues on 4g. 3g however was a bit shaky.

Yeah, but technically that's the phone doing data, not voice. Voice calls through Verizon phones still go through CDMA. Since LTE was the offshoot of GSM and Verizon's 3G network not being GSM and it being CDMA and how they insist on doing their athentication the same between LTE and CDMA ( This Is Why Your Verizon Galaxy Nexus (Or Other 4G LTE VZW Phone) Is Losing Its Data Connection ) this was likely why we were losing data connections.

My question is, when Verizon makes it that the actual phone calls go over LTE sometime next year, will our Bionics be able to do it, just making the CDMA radio useless in the phone, or will we need new LTE phones.

Oh, and one reason we are able to do data and voice at the same time because of the fact that voice is handled by the CDMA radio and data being on the seperate LTE radio, do you think it's likely we will lose the ability to do voice and data at the same time?

I admit I am very ignorant to how this works... Wouldn't it be of benefit to keep 3g around to balance out the loud? Is Verizon planning on having a 4g network everywhere there is 2g and 3g?

And if so, hypothetically speaking they did. If they discontinued 2g and 3g down the road all together. Would it free up spectrum for more 4g subscribers? And if it didn't free up spectrum, wouldn't it make sense to leave up at least 2g or 3g strictly for voice and texts there by having less traffic on the 4g network?

I can't believe that Verizon would not use CDMA for voice traffic for phones that already have it. My guess - and it is only a guess - is that VoLTE will be something that will be available for phones designed specifically for that feature.

From the articles I have been reading they do intend to end 3G. This is just one of them...
