Soooo many complaints

Geez I've really been turned off by the Android/Bionic community lately. So many complaints about ICS. After months of everyone acting like it was the biggest controversy in the history of the universe that we didn't have our update yet. Two news-flashes for you. 1) ICS didn't break anything on your phone. 2) Even if it did, it would only prove why they need to take their time releasing these updates. We already knew the update for the Razr was a mess. So they tried to take their time and fix all the bugs, and everyone was ready to disown Motorola and never purchase from them again because of the delays.

Occam's razor. The simplest explanation is probably the right one. Is it more likely that, after months of testing and rejected versions, Motorola still released an ICS update that broke everyone's headphone jack, SMS capability, no audio comes out of the speaker, etc? Or could it be possible that you haven't even tried a factory reset, you have some apps that are causing conflicts with ICS, or worst case scenario (but still not the fault of the ICS rom), something is specifically wrong with your device, not every Bionic running ICS?

This forum sounds like a bunch of ungrateful whiny children this week. Stop trying to crucify Motorola. Stop trying to make it sound like they purposely would have released something that didn't work. Many of us are having a wonderful experience with the ICS rom. The problem, like always, is that people tend to be more vocal when they are unhappy, and stay quiet when they are satisfied. So people who are having no issues aren't flooding the forums to talk about their experience. Only the people who probably caused the problem themselves are coming out of the woodwork to say that Motorola is the spawn of satan.

Try a factory reset. Or get in your car and go to the Verizon store. Nobody said you had to figure these issues out by yourself. If you aren't savvy enough to understand the update process and how to handle it in the first place, you probably shouldn't be trying to find out how to fix it yourself either. The money you pay Verizon every month isn't just for service. It also means there is a store full of people waiting to help you at no extra charge. They released an official update, they owe you support for it. It's not like you flashed an unofficial ROM and messed it up yourself. Stop posting your complaints online, take your phone to the store, and ask them to fix it for you without messing up your data.

Yeah, when I updated to ICS and saw my constant "android.process.acore has stopped" errors I figured was just some stuff that was conflicting due to upgrading with all my apps still on.

The way I look at it, this is sort of a major OS upgrade, sorta like going from Windows 95 to Windows XP. These really are computers in are pockets that can act like phones, not just phones that have built in calculators. GB itself didn't utilize both cores on the CPU whereas ICS does. That is a rather drastic upgrade of the OS. I know doing the factory reset completely cleared up my issues and it's been an incredible phone since that time.

People have to anticipate that every upgrade may require a clean install, just like with a desktop/laptop. This is why backing up data is so important even on phones. If your data is backed up, it takes no time, or effort, really to speak of to reinstall the apps.

I like what you are saying, but also keep in mind that this is one of the places that folks have to go to bitch a little and try to find answers, so that's why the tone seems to be that way.
To their credit they are reaching out and trying to find answers, one just has to apply a little more "filtering" when it comes to less technical folks trying to convey technical concerns.

Sometimes yeah, walk away or ignore 'em. -But I feel ya.
That's how it is in this particular slice of the tech world.

True, but keep in mind, a lot of people are not just looking for help but wanting to just trash the phone and don't even place the blame in the proper place.

How many times have we seen posts where people believed it was a Bionic only issue about data loss on 4G? Now yes, losing 4G data was a problem, but not because of the Bionic but rather because of Verizon.

This Is Why Your Verizon Galaxy Nexus (Or Other 4G LTE VZW Phone) Is Losing Its Data Connection

But no matter if you put evidence and proof of the other 4G phones having the same 4G data issues, it was still the Bionic's fault, that the Bionic was completely to blame.

Since the ICS release, really since the release of the leaks, how many people seem to blame ICS or Android or even the Bionic of not working well with Flash? Well, yes, there is a Flash issue, but it's not Google's fault, it's not bad programming in ICS or the fault of the Bionic, it's Adobe, the makers of Flash, not wanting to continue it on mobile platforms but rather they want mobile devices to use Air or HTML5. I like Flash too, but it's pointless to be angry at the wrong thing for it not working well.

So I understand where PowerBomb is coming from. While there is reason to be frustrated, even to have some anger, a lot seem to misplace it.

For the first three months that I owned a launch day, bionic I hardly ever could get 4G to work. Then I replaced it in December and that phone almost always had 4G . Roughly 4 months later that replacement phone started having trouble with 4G . I got another replacement which is the one I have now and it's working . So please dont try to tell everyone that the bionic doesn't have 4G issues . It's been one of the most prevalent problems of the bionic

Thank you for proving my point. Here I have linked an article about Verizon 4G problems, an article not even about the Bionic as the title mentions the Galaxy Nexus SPECIFICALLY, and even goes on to explain why ALL (at the time) Verizon 4G phones have had data drop issues and link it to Verizon's odd way of wanting 3G (CDMA) and 4G (LTE) authenticated the exact same way.

But yet even with that, no, it's the Bionic to blame. Sorry, but while yes, the Bionic does, or did, have a data issue with 4G, it was NOT Bionic specific. Were we the last to get the patch to fix it? Yes, it wasn't put out to us until our ICS upgrade. That doesn't make it the Bionic's fault that it didn't hold the 4G signal. Did the Bionic cause the Galaxy to lose data? Did it cause the Razr to lose data?

I am not saying there is not a data issue (so don't put words in my mouth, thank you), I am saying that the blame for the data issue that 4G users experienced was the fault of Verizon's implementation of 4G, not the Bionic.

I had a great experiencewith 4g on the first update. the second update made it worse. ICS seems to be doing ok for 4g also. but overall the bionic has been the poster child for 4g issues

I just tell it like it is. I'm not trying to advocate for or against the phone.
How has the Bionic been the poster child for 4G issues? Sorry Dave, but it sounds like you are wanting to blame the Bionic for it's past 4G data issues and not Verizon. That's like blaming your BluRay player for all of a sudden not playing newer BluRay's if the movie industry changes to a new file format that your current BluRay player doesn't support.

This is like when people said "OMG 905 broke data again". No, it didn't. Yes, the data issues did arise about the same time 905 went to soak test, but many of us were still on 902 when the issue arose again. Which seems more plausible, that 905 magically infected phones that didn't even have 905 on it or that Verizon did something network side?

If you do a Google search, you will see Razr users, Nexus users and any other 4G phone users had issues at the same time we Bionic users did. Now yes, the Bionic to this point does seem to be the forgotten, unwanted stepchild, at least until Punit Soni took over at Motorola, and we got the updates later than everyone else did to fix the problems. However, is that the fault of the phone or of Verizon and/or Motorola?

. With two bionics in the family I can easily see that one bionic will work solidly on 4G at the same moment the other bionic doesn't . Then, when I get a replacement bionic it works better than the previous bionic that tells me that the problem is with the phone . It's not with the system. i used to pull the battery and the Sim card to get 4G back and then it would work properly for days. That's a phone issue. why are you so invested in trying to prove that the bionic isnt flawed? many people have had trouble with the bionics 4G reception

So? That just means one phone is better at handling the authentication, no different that when some Razr's didn't drop data as much as other Razr's or some Nexus's didn't drop data as much as other Nexus's.

But please, go right ahead and blame the Bionic all you want.

I lay the blame solely on Motorola for not getting the software right
So Verizon's crazy authentication scheme is no issue at all? Can't possibly be at fault for any of the prior data issues in your opinion? Does Motorola control Verizon's decision on how their network is implemented or what changes they make, or do they have to follow up whatever changes Verizon makes with software fixes that Verizon then has to approve before Motorola, or any other phone manufacturer, can push them out?

So, I have been keeping up with this thread since it started. I enjoy reading most of the posts that are made in all of the threads for the Bionic. Everyone's experience with this amazing phone called the Bionic is going to be mostly different. I've had mine since I think May of this year. I've never had "data" drops per say. I've had mostly 3G on my phone but when I was in a 4G area here in Phoenix I would have 4G no problem. Since the ICS upgrade, I'm mostly on 4G. Do I have low signal bars for 4G yeah but I still have it.

I don't know why I'm one of the lucky ones to not have any real problems with my phone while others have. The only thing I can think of is that there are different batches of phones made every day or week and when they get shipped out perhaps they are in just a little bit different condition than the previous ones. This is just my 2 cents but I've heard from carriers themselves after getting a problematic phone that there were bad batches sent out and that as people call in they are getting new ones sent out. Granted that was in the era of flip phones and where windows phones and blackberries were the top end but still it happens.

It never had anything to do with the hardware of the phone. Verizon has a crazy way of authenticating for it's data insisting the it authenticate LTE the same as CDMA when LTE is an offshoot of GSM. This article explains it well...

This Is Why Your Verizon Galaxy Nexus (Or Other 4G LTE VZW Phone) Is Losing Its Data Connection

It also was never a Bionic only issue, as you can tell by the title of the article. Also, it seemed some markets were better for holding data than others. However, some people who traveled a lot would report data drops in one area and no drops in another. If it had to do with bad batches of phones, why would the issue not be prevalent in one area? Not to mention, why would EVERY 4G phone have large amounts of bad batches, even ones from different carriers but the good batches all end up in the same places?

A lot of people will still stubbornly insist 905 brought back the data drop issue that 893 seemed to correct and was also stable for the majority of 902. The problem with this thinking is that while the data drop issue did come back about the time 905 went to soak, many of us were still on 902 and started experiencing the data drop as well, so how could it have been 905.

One thing I did notice was about the time that the data drops started happening the last time, it was about the time a lot of the other phones seemed to be getting their big updates. My opinion is that Verizon adjusted how they did authentication on the network slightly to match the updates sent to the other 4G phones and this update wasn't sent out to the Bionic until our ICS.

"Complaints" when upgrade comes out is normal, every phone that gets a major update has tons and tons of complaints, because:

1) Many people hate change
2) Many people are unwilling to put any effort into figuring stuff out (see #1)
3) Many people are too quick to associate any change with the cause of a problem (see #1)
4) Technology occasionally fails, get over it. That is what warranty's and and insurance is for.

Sorry, that is just my two cents worth...
