Hi, my Xperia U won't connect to my computer running XP. When I first connected via USB, Sony PC Companion v2.1 was installed and then auto-updated from the internet. Whenever I try to connect via USB, I keep getting the message:

Code:
PC Companion was not able to connect to the phone. Please disconnect and connect again.
When connected, Windows itself just recognizes the phone as camera ST25i.

Can anyone help me out or is there some other way to transfer files to the phone via USB without PC Companion?

Thanks!

This sounds as though the device drivers for MTP have not been installed on the PC, you may need to access the Device Manager and install the drivers from there.

Here is a link on how to get to the Device Manager section

XP Device Manager - How to Access Device Manager From the Control Panel in Windows XP

From Device manager, try find SEMC it may have a ! beside it or ? if this is the case right click it and open the properties and press on install drivers.

Let me know how this works out.

Thanks for your help. I checked the Device Manager - I could not find any specific item there labelled "SEMC" and there are no items with a "!" or "?" next to it.
