If you're complaining about a slow and buggy rooted Droid, you're using the wrong ROM. I installed BB 0.8 and Chevy's 10-slot 1.2GHz ROMs and this thing is flying. Try that combo before you give it up. It's like trading in a Concorde for a Cessna.

Hi all. I'm new to android, but sounds like you can do a lot more with a rooted Motorola Droid. Faster and all. I don't know much about it though and am afraid of messing something up. Can you point me in the right direction? I Just did that last upgrade to 2.1. Hope that didn't mess up my chance to root. Also if there's someone in the san Diego area that is proficient in this, please contact me.

Thanks,

Scott.

Just mail it to me with a money order for $50, and I'll have it rooted, and install cyanogen on it. Plus, at no additional charge, I'll install CRPercodani's 48MB hack that will really speed things up!

J/K...and do yourself a favor...don't look for the 48MB hack...:D

Sorry, I'm in a mood...this is what you can do.

Follow this link. Now, I am the third person in this thread to link to this guide...so you are going to the right place. :) This will allow you to flash an .sbf file that basically takes your phone back in time to an unrooted and stock 2.0.1 state. PLEASE FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY and heed the warnings...if you do not you could damage your phone beyond repair...I personally recommend using a laptop because if you unplug your phone during flashing, your phone will be screwed. If you use a laptop and lose power (could happen)...your laptop battery will save you. I'm not trying to scare you off...but these are the things that keep you out of trouble.

That is the key...you need to go back to 2.0.1 so you can then root your phone (2.1 has not been rooted yet).

From there...check this guide out here. This guide will get your newly flashed 2.0.1 ROM rooted. Take the time to read and learn as much as you can cause being informed (with ADB, SPRecovery, Clockwork Recovery, etc)...WILL save you a lot of time later.

At this point, you can now apply custom ROMs. Check out Cyanogen and Bugless Beast as they are probably the two best, most stable, and most popular ROMs available. The donate version of ROM manager will allow you to install both, so you might want to look into that.

Questions along the way...search, ask, whatever...just be comfortable with everything you are doing to your phone and understand that even if your really muck things up (not likely) you will be able to "start over" by going back to step one and flashing that .sbf file again.
