Nowhere land..
I'm a grandfathered unlimited customer. I tripped on something surfing the web that was three weeks old claiming this.

I just got off the phone with Verizon and found it is very much true!

I went ahead and had the feature put on, 30 dollars a month at this time will get you unlimited data! To share up to 8 devices/computers!

I figured, why not, if I don't care for it I'll drop it off of my plan with little to lose. But if I do like it, it's possible to be grandfathered into the unlimited hotspot.

But I got ponder and ask why would Verizon do such a thing? If they're so terribly worried about a spectrum crunch and data hogs.

Personally, as much data as I go through I cannot justify using an app to get it for free. Yes, I feel a guilty... Now that I'm thinking, I have many uses for the hotspot feature since this phone is my only connection to the internet, I can justify an extra 30 bucks a month. :)

Where did you find a Verizon offer of unlimited wifi hotspot to grandfathered users? We've had 4 phones on a grandfathered unlimited data plan for years, when we added a hotspot to our plan it was $35/mo for 3Gigs, and when we've gone over the 3Gig llimit, we were charged more. Can you point me to te Verizon hotspot offering, as I would be interested in this plan.

I just read it in a forum from an average joe and called and asked. All you have to do is ask. :)

I asked them when the offer expires, but he didn't have an answer.

They have offered the unlimited hotspot to unlimited user for a long time it is just not advertised. You have to ask for it and sometimes more than once.
That's pretty big news. All my research, including a live chat with VW rep showed a $20 (sometimes $30) adder for 2GB limited hotspot. Rep couldnt answer how they would know data difference between my unlimted phone plan and hotspot 2GB data. Other research say's you can get 3rd party (which is what VW got dinged by the FCC for blocking) tethered hotspot apps, and VW would'nt even know you were using it. This seems to be a more legit method which I prefer as I dont like worrying about getting caught, being limited, etc. I had planned on the $20 plan and limiting my hotspot usage to just times I'm out of range of any free wifi. If this is true, I just pay the 30 bucks (company reimbursed) and dont worry about data usage, when, where or how. Did you get this thru a phone rep or in a store?

Oops: Just re-read your original post, you just got off the phone with VW rep. that answered my question. Thanks

Just sign on to their website on a computer, log into your account, go to manage features, and it should appear under 4g mobile hotspot for 29.99 a month.

I couldn't find the option referred to in the above quote. I saw the option labeled Change Features but there was no option for 4g mobile hotspot available. In my case, I upgraded from a 3g to a 4g hotspot in June 2012. The rep said no grandfather-ing was available. I'll call customer service on this one.

That's weird, I see it right here on my account if I wanted to add it to my Gnex line.

They also prorate it. I've added it some months for a couple of days and it costs less than a dollar a day because I have a discount on features. It's actually not that hard to get. You can add it online or through The My Verizon app.

Im curious, how exactly can you only get it for a day or so? I can imagine if I get a tablet I'd only need to use the wifi every so often, how does this work?

It is feature of the unlimited plan. You just go to verizonwireless.com login in go to change features select the phone with unlimited data scroll down to hotspot and add it. when you are done using it you can cancel it. Features are billed on a prorated bases so it work's out to be about a dollar a day (can be less if you have a corporate discount)

Seriously? Wow, I'll have to get my phone adjusted so I can make account changes-Im not the primary, but that'll be a trip for when I get myself a tablet. Given that I do have unlimited data and dont plan on getting rid of it, oh, ever. I figure if I want a new phone, I'll look for a older one thats a upgrade to my current on ebay.
