Newbie here. Just bought my first smart phone (Samsung Galaxy Attain 4G). :)

At this point, I'm not sure what all I'll be using my phone for so I don't know what to load on it. Generally speaking, are there any apps that you would consider to be "must haves?"

Thanks

Hello and Welcome to Android Forums, infrasonic. :)

At this point, I'm not sure what all I'll be using my phone for so I don't know what to load on it.

That kinda says it all. Until you decide what you want to do, then it's almost impossible to recommend anything. That said, people find a file manager app helpful if your phone didn't come with one. Astro or ES File Explorer are commonly used. Angry Birds is probably on everyone's phone at some point, too ;)

I currently have about 90 apps installed on my daily driver (Samsung Galaxy S2). If you want to browse my list it's here.

Here is a brief list of apps that I use all the time:

Evernote (note taking, todo lists, etc) - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.evernote

Twitter - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.twitter.android

Foursquare (social position check-ins) - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.joelapenna.foursquared

Pandora (radio) - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pandora.android

Reader - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.reader

Google+ - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.plus

Bible - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sirma.mobile.bible.android

There are tons of apps out there that can be useful or just plain fun. If it is an "Editors Choice" it is probably a pretty good app. Most are free and you loose nothing in trying some out.
