How timely. I just saw this post after doing a search for this very topic. Here's what happened to me today. Let me first add it's not how often you use the feature (IF it had it), but the importance of having it when you need it to.
-GF calls - she's driving a friend to an emergency meeting.
-She can't find the place, she's lost.
-She calls me - I'm on a bike ride. "I'll check google maps and call you right back." (like someone suggested).
-But, umm, what in the hell were all those street names again? OK, have a smartphone but then have to memorize all the street names and where to turn left or right and THEN call her back.
-Call her back to give her the directions.
-She calls back a few minute later. She's still lost.
-"OK - I think this will work - stay on the line - I'm going to try to check google maps again while I have you on". It worked for about 3 seconds and then poof, she's gone.
But wait, now I know that I can use WiFi instead - "hold on dear - I have to first enable my WiFi, then I can check google maps for you." Oh, but wait, I'm out in the middle of freakin' Wisconsin country roads on my bike. Mmm, maybe I'll go ask that cow over there if there's a hotspot around one of these pastures...
